The
church cleared rapidly. The people present
were varied in personality, economic and
social status, yet they were united in common
danger. There was a complete absence of
rationalizing arguments. I did not hear one of
these arguments from a single person:
1.
It can’t happen. It never has happened,
therefore it never can happen. We had a flood
last evening so we cannot have one tonight. It’s
against all the laws of probability. Lightning
never strikes twice in the same place. Carry
on with the message, I’m interested.
2.
We have people specially trained and paid to
deal with such emergencies. Why do we have a
Police Force, a Civil Defense, a Red Cross?
Leave it to them; it’s their job; I’m too
busy.
3.
My children are in the Lord’s hands. He
loves them. If they drown, they will go to be
with Him in Heaven. There is no occasion for
me to be worried or concerned.
I
repeat, I did not hear one of these arguments.
With a genuine concern, everyone rushed home
to confront the menacing flood.
There
is a flood of murder rushing down upon our
homes from the Mountains of Godless
Materialism known as Communism. This
flood-tide is 900,000,000 individuals high. It
threatens to inundate country, home, children
and church. This is an emergency. It demands
the prompt attention of everyone.
The
strange thing is that most people react not by
personal, dedicated attention to protection
against the danger, but by taking refuge
behind one of the arguments typified above.
Whom
the Communists wish to destroy, they first
make mad!!
Crisis
follows crisis throughout the world. At the
moment, th world is in the throes of the
deadly Suez Canal crisis. By the time this
letter reaches you, the issues may be somewhat
clarified. Nevertheless, I will be
sufficiently venturesome to attempt a little
prophecy.
I
do not expect a full-scale war over Suez. I
expect a compromise that will be
unsatisfactory to both sides and which will be
unstable because it will leave both sides
embittered and dissatisfied. I expect this
because I believe this is what Russia wants,
and she is largely calling the plays in this
struggle. Russia is not ready for a military
venture into Africa. Before that hour comes,
she wants to consummate the conquest of Asia
and consolidate her power there. In the
meantime, she wants to fan the flame of
bitterness in Arab, Western relations so that
the Arab would may be her military tool when
the moment is ripe.
Our Indian Project
One of the nations of primary concern to the
Communists is India. We have another fine
letter from our Indian friend and brother, Ch
Devananda Rao. He writes:
"The Communists have
just published a 263 page book ‘Visit of
N. A. Bulganin and N. S. Kruschev to India.’
It is published by Foreign Languages
Publishing House, Moscow. It can be
purchased for one cent. It reveals clearly
how they pln to deceive the people.
"We
are here to explain to the people the real
inner meaning of their speeches. You know
that in the last Andra Elections we defeated
the Communists in a wonderful way. Now the
Communists are laboring day in and day out
to rebuild their party. They now claim to be
the party of co-operation and many people
are believing them as they are so very
subtle. The Andra Communists have their own
big printing press and their speeches are
published in their daily newspaper. They are
working very hard with the young people and
laborers. For propaganda purposes, they have
cars, bicycles, phonograms, Cinema
projectors, drama groups, and printing
presses.
"We
shall not rest until we defeat them.
"In
Hydrabad State an Anti-Christian group has
been formed for Anti-Christian propaganda.
They have been working hard and spending a
lot of money and have converted seventy
Christian families to the Hindu religion.
They are planning to form a group in Andra
State also.
"You
have asked me to put before you the specific
plans of our Indian Christian Cursade:
1. Evangelical and
Social work.
Ten Evangelical, paid,
full-time workers are immediately needed
to work in key places. Many villages in
our area to whom I preached the Word of
God and the impending catastrophe are
now requesting workers immediately to
encourage them spiritually and socially.
This is very urgent and important. I
have contact ten well-educated, able,
sincere and hard-working Christians to
go to work in these villages and they
are now ready to do so.
2. Bicycles, phonograms,
cameras, lamps and the other necessary
tools urgently needed.
3. We plan special Bible
Classes and Camp Meetings.
4. Fifty cent. Of land
is needed for the Headquarters in
Oyayawada City, which will cost $2000.
5. The building will
cost $2000.
6. Printing Press.
The price of a
suitable printing press is $2000. At
least five workers are needed including
the Press Manager, and we need $150
monthly for this purpose. Using the
printing press we will translate, print
and publish suitable tracts and books,
as well as a monthly magazine in the
Telegu language to preach Christ, and
outline the danger of our deadly foe,
Communism, and the way to combat it.
"Please pray for us.

It has been considered
desirable by the Board of the Christian
Anti-Communism Crusade that I should visit
India to meet the brethren, establish
confidence and fellowship and see what we can
do at first hand.
I
am planning to do so in late November or early
December while en-route to Australia where my
loving wife and children await. I will not
have seen my children for fifteen months and
my arms and heart are hungry for them.
Will

After
speaking on this subject at one of the
meetings at Winona Lake, a brother approached
and said, "If we listen to you, agree
with you, and do nothing about it, we are
terrible hypocrites. I don’t want to be a
hypocrite. Here is my check to support an
Indian Christian worker for twelve
months." Won’t you do likewise to the
limit of your ability?
Winona Lake School
The time spent
at Winona Lake in cooperation with the Bible
Conference of Moody Bible Institute was
glorious. The classes for Christian
Anti-Communists were well attended and most
enthusiastic. A real work was done and much
more on similar lines is indicated.

"Cast thy bread upon
the waters and thou shalt find it after many
days." Some years ago, I spoke in Tokyo,
Japan to a meeting of missionaries and
American Service Personnel. At the conclusion
of the meeting I was approached by a Colonel
of the U.S. Air Force. He was a fine
Christian. He said, "Why didn’t I know
these things? I am an educated and an
intelligent man; why didn’t someone tell
me?"
The
years passed. July 23rd of this
year I spoke in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It
was my joy to again meet this Colonel. He
immediately went to work and initiated
proceedings which culminated when I addressed
the officers of the Continental Air Defense at
Ent Air Force Base, Colorado Springs. It was a
privilege and a responsibility to speak to the
vast group of Air Force Officers in such a
position of responsibility. I was pleased to
receive the following letter from the officer
responsible.

aggressive intent of the communist doctrine,
these were dispelled by your vivid description
of the philosophy of world dominion as
outlined by the Soviet leaders.

you should happen to be in this area in the
future, please let us know, and perhaps
another presentation can be arranged.

I addressed the Kiwanis Club
of Chicago and received this letter following
the address:
"Dear Dr. Schwarz:
Readers Digest has a monthly feature entitled
"My Most Unforgettable Character"–we
think of you in these same terms, substituting
the words "Most Dedicated Person"
and/or "Most Convincing Speaker."
The
average American hates to face unpleasant
truths until pushed into action, and it is our
fervent wish that the impact of your talk will
force an action upon our club. Thinking again
of your crusade, one method of attack that
would be effective would be through Kiwanis
and other service clubs at the policy level,
(International and District Conventions).
We
have such great slogans as "Build As Free
Men" — "Freedom–Our Sacred
Trust" — "Liberty–Let’s Keep
It" — and if you would center your talk
at this level, we believe that much time would
be saved in arousing naturally apathetic
business men into something resembling
thinking about this fundamental problem. At
least, it is worth a few "ideas",
and we will try to follow through on the
agenda for the forthcoming District Convention
this fall.

It was with deep humility and
conviction that I recently accepted the
responsibility of Executive Secretary of the
Crusade. I endorse the Doctrinal statement and
purpose of the Crusade without reservation.
Four
years ago I was present in one of Dr. Schwarz’s
meeting in Redondo Beach, California. The
message to me was then likened as to a cold
shower. I shivered and shook until I could
remove the cause with a towel of apathy. Two
years ago here in Houston the message began to
penetrate into the frontal lobe of the brain.
Many of the predictions of the first message
had already become a reality. The Communists
state that their ultimate victory of world
conquest is sure because of our apathy, self
indulgence, desires of personal pleasures, and
incessant entertainment requirements.
Dr.
Schwarz’s question "Is your life an
argument for or against the accuracy of this
statement?" struck home for my wife and
myself. We are together pledged to make every
minute count for our Lord and our country. We
would welcome your fellowship in this Crusade.

that "in the last days perilous times
shall come." We are aware of this
condition even in America, while in the iron
curtain countries, personal danger is
infinitely greater. In many areas, to profess
Christ is to invite a violent death.
With
the advance of atheistic Communism into new
areas, we must rely on God’s promise,
"When the enemy shall come in like a
flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a
standard against him. (Isaiah 59:19). Then we
must be willing to do our part as human
instruments. And the only personal defense
against the malicious subtlety of the enemy is
a saving faith in Jesus Christ.

waging a militant battle against such

week at Winona Lake was one of inspiration and
information. Dr. Pietsch and Dr. Schwarz are
well equipped to lead this strategic effort
for Christ, freedom and happiness. Dr. Schwarz
has the greatest grasp of the whole scope of
Communism of any one I have known or read

liberty loving people, especially Christians,

Words
fail us to express our deep appreciation for
your support and prayers for the great work
God has placed under our united watch care.
The Christian Anti-Communism Crusade is a
definite missionary program, to safeguard and
protect every vital interest we have, our
loved ones, our homes, our churches, our
missionary activities – home and foreign,
our free enterprise system. The imminent
danger of Communism is a tremendous threat;
and the danger of the hour is our complacency
and unconcern that this dreadful tragedy
cannot take hold here in the United States and
Canada. This is a sad delusion. We must not
forget–the devil as an agel of light is more
to be feared than as a roaring lion. Peaceful
co-existence with this deadly enemy is an
impossibility for a Bible-believing Christian.
God has clearly defined what our attitude
should be in II Corinthians 6:14-18:
"Be
ye not unequally yoked together with
unbelievers: for what fellowship hath
righteousness with unrighteousness? and what
communion hath light with darkness? And what
concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part
hath he that believeth with an infidel? And
what agreement hath the temple of God with
idols? for ye are the temple of the living
God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them
and walk in them; and I will be their God, and
they shall be my people. Wherefore come out
from among them, and be ye separate, saith the
Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I
will receive you, and will be a Father unto
you and ye shall be My sons and daughters,
saith the Lord Almighty."
To
compromise or to vacillate will lead us to
disaster. We urge each member of our Cursade
to be a missionary in his community; to join
with us in this missionary effort and keep
constantly before us our objective. First and
foremost is to honor the Lord Jesus Christ on
a program of education, evangelism, and
dedication.
While
we hate Communism, we love the soul of the
Communist, and we would like to see them
delivered and saved by our Lord Jesus. Let us
remember, the only approach to God is through
the Lord Jesus Christ, and if we fail to honor
Jesus Christ, we insult God. I urge that each
of us rededicate our lives to the Lord Jesus
Christ to serve God in this crisis hour, to
fight Communism not with carnal weapons, but
in the power of the Holy Spirit.
You
will be delighted to learn we have inaugurated
a new radio program each Tuesday night, 9:00
to 9:30, Pacific Coast Daylight Saving Time,
over Radio Station KGER, Long Beach,
California. We are also broadcasting each
Sunday and Tuesday night over Radio Station
KXEL, Waterloo, Iowa, 50,000 watts. Our
present radio time will cost us approximately
$300 a month, and we are asking our friends
and members to underwrite this designated for
radio: $1 or more each month so it will not be
necessary to take this our of our general
fund.
We
are enclosing a letter which you can sign and
return, and this money will be used as
designated. We covet your prayers for our
executive director as he takes his important
trip to India and Australia. He and his
associate, James Colbert, are doing an
excellent work for the Lord. His article this
