Outstanding
contributions to the success of the school were made by many individuals and
groups. The delegation from Canada was led by Rev. Leslie Millin, Director
of the Freedom Foundation of Canada. Leslie Millin was a missionary in China
and viewed the Communist take-over of the unhappy country. He told the story
if an address, "It can’t happen here," which is available in
booklet form. In a subsequent address he probed the heart of the unspeakable
horror of Communist brainwashing based upon his own unspeakable experiences.
No ear could listen without a feeling of awe and horror. His experiences
were confirmed by a Catholic Priest, Rev. Dunker, who also was a victim of
their insane evil practices in China. Finally the Canadian group outlined
the great program of the Freedom Foundation of Canada leading up to a
counter-attack they are launching with a prayer underground. They are
supplying the names of two Communists to anyone who will undertake to pray
for them. Write for further details of this great program.
Through the cooperation
of the Un-American Activities Committee of the House of Representatives, its
chairman, Rep. Francis Walter, and Rep. John Pillion of Buffalo, New York,
we were privileged to hear Richard Arens, Director of the Un-American
Activities Committee. Who will ever forget his address? Filled with facts,
vibrant with alarm-for two hours it revealed a picture of Communist
infiltration and advance to strike terror to a discerning heart. He
delivered a smashing blow against complacency.
Many other outstanding
contributions mere made; too many to mention here. The addresses were
recorded on tape. They are available. Write to: W. P. Strube, Jr., PO Box
6422, Houston 6, Texas.
There are so many who
helped that I hesitate to mention names. However, I would thank Rev.
Trevelyn White of First Baptist Church, Caldwell, Idaho, who did the
pioneering work in the setting up of the school. To Rev. Mack Douglas,
Pastor of Tower Grove Baptist Church of St. Louis, and to the officers and
members of that church, we owe a great debt. The facilities were ideal.
Members of the church provided coffee breaks both morning and afternoon, and
lunch and noon. The enthusiasm and wholehearted support of Mack Douglas was
an inspiration to all concerned. He is leading a continuing groups in St.
Louis of the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade.
Among the financial
contributors, who helped the school, I will mention only three by name:–Mr.
Roy Whisler of St. Louis; F. Gano Chance of the AB Chance Company,
Centralia, Missouri, who also gave a splendid address on Communist Fronts
and Russian Sputniks; and the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of St. Louis. In
addition to a financial contribution, this latter company had some of its
employees present at all sessions. God bless the many who were unable to
attend themselves, but who helped with their contributions.
The members of the
Board of the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade present were the Vice
President, George Westcott, M.D., Surgeon of Ypsilanti, Michigan; the
Secretary, Mr. W. P. Strube, Jr., President of the Mid-American Life
Insurance Company of Houston, Texas, and Director of the Texas branch of the
Crusade, Rev. T. P. Lott, Pastor of the Long Point Baptist Church, Houston,
Texas. Our President, Dr. W. E. Pietsch, was unable to come because of
illness. He would appreciate prayer for his health.
Again I would remind
you–if you desire tapes of any of the messages delivered, write to Mr. W.
P. Strube, Jr.
The consensus of
opinion is expressed in a letter from George Westcott, "I hope it will
be possible to carry out Dick Arens suggestion – a whole series of schools
like the one last month, all over the country. He suggested that as the most
effective solution in an answer to a question someone posed during the
lunch-hour conversation." Already we have requests for schools in
California and Hawaii. Write your suggestions.
The following letter
from Associated Industries of Missouri, signed by Mr. Willian J. Henderson
is typical:
"Just a note of appreciation for
the inspiring and well-organized school which you and your staff conducted
in St. Louis. Without exception, this was one of the greatest experiences
in my life. Others have told me the same thing. A good number of us were
utterly exhausted from the emotion stirred by a number of the speakers,
the excitement of working together as an organization and watching you
perform daily with such vigor and enthusiasm. It was indeed a wonderful
week well-spent.
"A group of us
are meeting today to continue the good work. Our long range goal is a
clinic of this type next year with twenty times the number of people
attending and one hundred times more work involved. I sincerely believe
that the approach to this problem is a POSITIVE one. Our short range goals
are convincing others of the seriousness of this problem, aligning others
to the cause by getting their active participation, meeting and discussing
common core subjects with other speakers, and if need be, developing a few
fronts of our own.
"May I wish you
a great deal of success in similar venture throughout the country and if
there is any way in which I may be of assistance, please let me hear from
you. My kindest regards."
OPERATION
TESTIMONY
The unprecedented, patriotic and generous
action of the Allen-Bradley Company of Milwaukee continues to bear fruit.
They have now published it in nearly thirty of the nation’s largest
newspapers and have invested in the neighborhood of $150,000. Words are
inadequate to express my appreciation. Requests for reprints continue to
stream in and have now reached the figure of a quarter of a million. The
example of the Allen-Bradley Company is inspiring other groups to follow
suit. Regularly the news arrives of the publication of the testimony in the
papers of other cities. The American Legion of Indianapolis 11th
District, Department of Indiana, exhausted its treasury to publish the full
message in the Sunday edition of the Indianapolis Star. They spent $3,650.
The National American Legion has sent a copy to every Department throughout
the world. We received a copy of the Gallatin County Tribune from Bozeman,
Montana, with the Testimony sponsored by the First National Bank in Bozeman,
Security Bank and Trust Comapny, Gallatin Trust and Savings Bank.
Writing to the editor
of the paper, we received a heart-warming reply. He said, "I am very
proud that our small weekly paper had the honor and privilege of reprinting
your testimony; and my eyes have been opened by the universal acclaim with
which this testimony has been received. My one fear was the length of the
advertisement would deter people from reading it; for I was afraid not
everyone would, like myself, find it so intensely interesting as to be
unable to lay it aside. We printed about 40% over-run and are completely
sold out of everything save file copies. The American Legion ordered 200 so
that every post in Montana got one. Were it possible I would like to place
one in the hands of every student at the Montana State College here, some
3,000."
We have now received
news that the testimony has been published in the daily papers of Yakima,
Washington, and the Lewistown Daily News. We do not yet know how this came
to pass, but we are inquiring.
Other well-known papers
that have printed the testimony are: The Christian Beacon, published by the
Rev. Carl McIntire of the Bible Presbyterian Church of Collingswood, N. J.,
and Dawn, published by Sherwood Ide of Portand, Indiana.
An exciting experience
is to speak at a High School of Junior High School and have copies of the
testimony available at the close of the address. To watch the zeal with
which the students fight for copies, shows the deep interest they have in
the subject. This has been my experience many times this past month. The
Houston branch of the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade has made it a project
to get a copy of the testimony to every High School student in Texas. Other
states may follow suit.
The Southwestern
Savings and Loan Association of Houston, Texas, has requested 10,000 copies
to be mailed to all their accounts.
The Texas Power and
Light Company reprinted 7000 copies to sent to all their employees.
From far Formosa comes
news of a Chinese translation and publication of excerpts of the testimony.
The end is not yet. Are
you doing your part?
THE ALLEN-BRADLEY COMPANY
In the last letter I outlined the pleasure
with which I was anticipating meeting Mr. Harry Bradley and the Executives
of the Allen-Bradley Company. The visit took place and the realization
surpassed the anticipation. In their great Milwaukee plant I met and had
luncheon with Mr. Bradley and a group of his executives. Those present
included the President, Mr. Fred Looke, and Bob Siegrist, who broadcasts
daily from Chicago, "Bob Siegrist and the News" sponsored by the
Company. I could be forgiven a mistiness in my eyes as I thanked them for
all they had done. I outlined the problems and needs of our work and
received a most sympathetic and attentive hearing. They were universally
intelligent, informed and patriotic Americans with that lack of ostentation
that accompanies real character. I came away from the luncheon with an
uplift of spirit. I spent a great day in the office of Bob Siegrist,
interviewing the press, writing articles and planning for the future. It
culminated when I was his guest on his radio broadcast that evening.
There was a wonderful
sequel to the meeting. Shortly afterwards there came through the mail a
check for the Crusade to the amount of $10,000 from the Lynne-Bradley
Foundation. It came at a moment of great need. On Saturday an urgent cable
arrived from Mr. George Thomas of Kerala, India, telling of the opportunity
of acquiring an entire printing establishment in their Communist Controlled
State. Our funds were at rock bottom. On Monday the check arrived from the
Lynne-Bradley Foundation. We immediately cabled George Thomas to secure the
printing establishment. It is now working for Christ and freedom. I cannot
find words adequate to thank Mr. Bradley and his associates. I sincerely
thank God for them and their generous devotion to freedom.
KERALA COMMUNSTS IN TROUBLE
The Communists in Kerala, India find
themselves facing severe difficulties. For the first time they must fulfill
the promises made to the people or be defeated at the next election. Never
before has a Communist Government had to submit to a genuine election. As
they operate in a state under the Indian Union Constitution, this time they
must do so. They are in trouble. George Thomas writes:
"They promised milk and honey to the
teachers. Nothing has been flowing in the past year. Now they are
complaining and hence the teachers suffer. Rice prices are going up while
the stock is being depleted through mismanagement. However, the blame is on
the Central Government that they are not giving adequate allotment to the
State.
"Also, the party
has let loose a massive propaganda campaign against a Roman Catholic
Organization called the Christophers. From what I understand, this is an
organization in every country and has no violent activities at all. But the
Communists are branding them as the cause of all the trouble and unrest in
the State. They have even threatened to take action to support their
statements they have produced the confessions of two Christopher workers who
were arrested recently. This is all a big farce but they are trying to make
capital of it. If they go ahead and carry out their threat, I expect serious
trouble in the State. All the Christians, I believe, will unitedly oppose
any such a move.
"It is very
interesting to watch how they give the wrong twist to almost everything. The
Christophers, it seems, have a blue Uniform. The Communists call the,
therefore, the Blue-shirt Brigade! They see the hand of the Christophers in
all labour troubles, in every agrarian dispute and even in the usual
quarrels. According to them ‘the Blue-shirt brigade is a private militia
which is becoming a menace to all PEACE LOVING DEMOCRATS’. How easy to
find a scapegoat when there is need for one!
"I was the other
day reading in the paper that the Communist New Year resolve is to double
their Party membership. Their targets are the three States of Kerala, Andhra
and Bengal. According to reports, there are 58,000 members in Kerala, 48,000
in Andhra and 34,000 in Bengal. It seems the party is going to liberalize
membership rules and thus attract more members. In a recent Communist party
meeting in Bengal they are reported to have discussed the prospects of
capturing power in Andhra and Bengal also in the next General elections. The
General election, as you perhaps know, is four years away. Yet they have
started to work in terms of capturing power in Key States. I trust God will
strengthen our hands to work in unison against this dangerous threat.
"The prospects of
establishing a Printing Press in Kottayam is very bright. We have been
negotiating with a local Printer to sell his outfit for a reasonable price.
This is not brand new machinery but is very good and is now functioning. If
we can buy this it will save us a considerable amount in transport and also
charges of opening up a new operation. Besides, we will have all necessary
equipment like type (English and Malayalam), type cases, Cutting machine,
etc. In other words, we are not getting one Press alone but a going
establishment. According to present estimates this will cost us around
$4,500 which is very reasonable. The greatest advantage is that we can start
printing the magazine and tracts and other literature the day after
transaction is consummated. I shall appreciate your praying for this very
definitely. I know, the Lord is in this."
I am
pleased to announce the opening of the Houston office of the Christian
Anti-Communism Crusade. This will be located at 1400 Montrose Blvd., Houston
6, Texas. It will be under the direction of Bill Strube, President of
Mid-American Life Insurance Company and Secretary of the Christian
Anti-Communism Crusade. The office is made available through the generosity
of the Southern States Life Insurance Company of which the President is Mr.
L. E. Cowling. I was honored to be sponsored by Mr. Cowling as a speaker at
the Great Events series at Texas A & M College. Bill Strube and I were
both privileged to speak to the annual stockbrokers meeting of the Southern
States Life Insurance Company. We thank Mr. L. E. Cowling for this
opportunity. Houston, as a city, is leading the financial support for our
Crusade. We hope many other cities will accept the challenge. A network of
local officers and Crusade workers and speakers across the Nation is our
vision.
I with it were possible
to mention by name those numerous individuals who have helped our cause,
sacrificially and generously. I do want to say a special word of thanks to
Mr. C. S. Mott of Flint, Michigan, leading industrialist and known widely as
Mr. Flint, for a second donation of $1,000.00 to our cause. I would like to
congratulate Mr. Mott on his being chosen for one of the Freedom Awards from
the Freedom Foundation of Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.
CONCLUSION
The free nations of have their backs to the
wall. Kruschev and the Communists go from success to success. Cultural
Interchange and Summit Conference propaganda aid the Communists. Everyone
must do what we can. God has raised up and is blessing the Christian
Anti-Communism Crusade in a unique way. We are coming of age. The support of
patriotic, freedom loving Americans is needed. The record shows we merit it.
We can invest your dollars so wisely and well. With your help we can do so
much more. Please help sacrificially and generously. Let us not fail our
children and our Christ. God enrich you in your personal, professional, and
spiritual life.
Yours very sincerely,
Fred Schwarz
