WASHINGTON DISCUSSES COMMUNISM

Dear Christian Friend:
Recently in Washington, D. C. I addressed a meeting on the subject "Will the Kremlin Conquer America by the Year 1973?" In the question session that followed, the first secretary of a Communist Embassy asked the following question, "When Communism has conquered the world, what do you think it will be like? Will it be Communism as we have known it in the past, or will it have changed?"
This question is of great interest to many people. As Communism continues to advance at a rapid rate, and its victory looms closer every day, the question assumes an increasing importance. Here is my considered reply:
What we have seen thus far has been Communism under restraint. In his moments of maximum power, Joseph Stalin was conscious that there did exist in the world a force great enough to destroy him. The power of the Western World was obviously greater than his own. He had to be careful lest he provoke it to the point where this force would be exerted against him. Within Russia his power was absolute. He could awaken any morning, stretch himself and think, "I feel good today. Whom will I kill?" He could then make a few phone calls and limitless horror would become the experience of millions of people. Frequently he would decide that some class or nationality should be destroyed by deportation to Siberia. At his wish and command, the troops would go from house to house herding the women and children into one group, and the men into another. Families would be broken up, never to meet again on this earth. Like cattle, they would be loaded into box cars. A hole bored in the center of the floor for excretory purposes was the only civilized facility in these cars. The long journey to Siberia would begin. Without food or water throughout the entire day, sweltering in the packed steamy carriages; beneath the blazing summer sun, they would journey across the Russian plains. Stopping in the evening for a little food and water, the old and the weak who had succumbed during the day, would be removed. Finally they would be deposited in the Siberia wasteland to build for themselves a shelter against the oncoming winter, and most of them died a fearful and an agonizing death.

This was routine behavior for Joseph Stalin. He did it with the Kulaks. He did it with the people of the Baltic countries of Latvia, Esthonia, Lithuania. He did it with many Poles. He did it with a number of national minorities within Russia itself. The hideous story is described is that documented record of horror entitled "The Dark Side of the Moon."
On the evidence of Nikita Khrushchev, Stalin would have liked to do the same with the Ukranians, but he was unable to do so because he lacked adequate transportation facilities. Khrushchev says, "There were too many of them and not enough places to send them." He simply did not have enough box cars to transport 30 or 40 million Ukranians. He had the political and legal power to do it because Communism confers absolute power on the Communist dictator.
Another reason for hesitation by Stalin in the deportation of the Ukranians was the proximity to the West. There was a possibility that an act of such obvious, limitless brutality might provoke the West to some counteraction. To this extent Stalin was prevented from obeying the dictates of his Communist conscience to dispose of the nationalities and classes which was his Communist duty to destroy.
With the advancing Communist conquest, the external restraining force progressively diminishes. With the advent of world Communist conquest, it will disappear entirely. The paranoid Communist dictator will have absolute and limitless power. Theoretical Communism, which involved the planned destruction of entire social classes, will be freely consummated. We will inevitably see a regime of murder and slavery which, by contrast, will make Joseph Stalin appear a benign, compassionate gentleman.
This is the reality staring every American citizen in the face. To every parent, businessman, student, teen-ager, and child, to every American citizen, it presents a future bleak and horrible. No sacrifice that we can make now to avert this ghastly consummation could be too great.
In the light of the above, the ever expanding, world-wide ministry of the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade assumes increasing importance. Every day new appeals for help reach us from areas of the world under Communist siege. The establishment of the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade in China is both an encouragement and a responsibility. The following two letters received from the CACC in China speak for themselves. In the first letter General Andrew K. T. Ming states:

"Your second letter and five books have reached me. I have already read them to my co-workers. Most of them were moved to tears, and with one voice exclaimed, ‘Choice Christian Greetings! Victory to the CAC Crusade’.
"Then we held a service of worship. God gave us these Scriptures, Jer. 1:18, 19, ‘For, behold, I have made thee this day a defensed city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land. And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the Lord, to deliver thee.’, and Psalm 18:42, ‘Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets.’ Thank God! He gave us a great and wonderful encouragement for Anti-Communism. We have already translated two of the five books you sent. Because of lack of funds, we have to arrange to borrow the money at interest. When printed, we will first give them to President Chiang for his inspection, and then distribute them among churches, schools, government offices and the front line troops. I plan to print a half million copies of the five books translated. Is not this good news?
"This work should lead all the Anti-Communism Christians to establish themselves firmly as the bulwark of truth and for permanent victory. May God bless His own work!
"We are utterly dependent upon His help. At the same time we need the help of His servants, and of yours in particular.
"Now I am very glad to inform you that I received the ordination on June 8, 1958, as a Christian Minister and graduated from the Reformed Theological Seminary on June 18, 1958, and have retired last year."

This was followed by a letter from Wang Shih-Ping:

"Dear F. C. Schwarz, M.D.:
"Thank you for leading us to be strong Anti-Communism fighters in Christ. Your five Anti-Communism booklets have been translated into Chinese and submitted to President Chiang, Vice-President Chen, Chiefs of various Yuan and Ministries, and Commanders-in-Chief of Army, Nary and Air Force; and your lofty experience and high ideas have been highly praised.
"It is now urgent to print 500,000 copies of your booklets for the enlisted men and teachers and students of various schools. Therefore, please support us with possible printing expense at your earliest convenience in order to clear up the out-of-date and wandering ideas, and strengthen them into strong Anti-Communism elements.
"I think you have met Major General Ming Ping-tung already. I don’t deserve to take charge of the work in Taiwan for the time being. Please pray for me.

"May God bless you and your co-workers to manifest His Great Power.
"C.A.C.C. Taiwan Agent
"Wang Shih-Ping"

The oversea’s Chinese constitute one of today’s most strategic battlegrounds between Communism and freedom. Can we fail them in this request? We need $10,000 to supply all the literature they need. Surely there are Christians patriots prepared to give for this.

OPERATION TESTIMONY
The Allen-Bradley Company reports that requests for copies of my testimony on the Communist Mind are increasing. As you know, this remarkable Company under the leadership of its chairman, Mr. Harry Bradley, and president, Mr. Fred Loock, has blazed a trail of practical activity to avert the Communist disaster, that many other companies could well follow. They provide 25 copies of the testimony free to individuals and unlimited supplies to churches and schools. Wherever I go my heart rejoices as many individuals and groups are actively engaged in the distribution of the testimony. Were it possible for us to know the number of schools that have received it, we would be encouraged indeed.
Many individuals and groups are taking it as a project to distribute it to the students of the high schools and colleges of their area.

SOUTH AMERICA
It was easy to ignore the program Communism was making in the colleges and universities of Central and South America until the humiliating and degrading experiences of Vice President and Mrs. Nixon shocked many people to an awareness of this danger so close at hand.
The good work initiated by the generosity of the Allen-Bradley Company of Milwaukee continues to bear fruit. My testimony on the Communist Mind has now been translated into Spanish by a University of Lima, Peru. I cannot read Spanish personally, but, if the translation is as good as the printing and paper, a magnificent job has been done. The translation has been checked by Christian Spanish scholars. It is now urgent to distribute it in the colleges, universities, and high schools of Central America. This is another of the projects urgently crying for support at the present time. $10,000 is needed for this immediately.

LOCAL CHAPTERS
We are now proceeding with the establishment of local chapters of the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade. If you the interested in the establishment of a chapter in your area, please write to me. We must multiply our personnel to meet the need of the hour.

FILM
I have completed a film on Communism which is to be entitled "The Crimson Shadow." It has been produced by Gospel Films, Inc. of Muskegon, Michigan. It should be available September 15. If you desire to see it or to show it, please write to me.

ANTI-COMMUNISM SCHOOLS
Every day we receive requests for the holding of an anti-Communist school in some area. The difficulties are largely organizational and financial. There are just insufficient hours in the day and insufficient days in the week. Very shortly we hope to announce definite dates for a West Coast Anti-Communism School and an East Coast Anti-Communism School.

ANDHRA STATE
The Indian State of Andhra is threatened with Communist control, which in Kerala is a reality. It is good to know that the printing press we were privileged to supply to our brethren there is now busily at work. Ch. Devananda Rao, President of the Indian Christian Crusade writes:

"The operation of our printing press is a great step forward in the struggle for Christ and freedom in our vast country. We find a great joy while distributing the literature we print on the press. I forwarded to you samples printed on our press for free and prayerful mass distribution. I know the lord will richly bless our labors. There is no greater joy than serving our Saviour. Our little Babu is enjoying very good health and is very anxious to see you in India. We are anxiously looking forward to such a wonderful day again.

"Very cordially yours in His bonds,
Ch. Devananda Rao"

Some understanding of the difficulties confronting our Indian brethren is shown in the following letter received from Dr. Ch. D. Pushpanadham, Secretary of the Indian Christian Crusade:

"The operation of our printing press is a tremendous move forward to advance the cause of Christ and to actively combat our foes in our greater Andhra State.
"Thank you very much for asking me to tell you a little more about the Aryasamajists. The Aryasamajists are strong believers in Hinduism, but now their main program is to strongly combat our Christians and to reconvert the Christian families into Hinduism. They work with anti-Christian literature as well as mass processions telling the people who preach Christ are the agents of the foreigners. The term they use is ‘Foreign Imperialists.’ These groups are winning the young people and conducting special training classes for them. They teach anti-Christian propaganda. It is indeed a pitiable thing to note that many Christian families have deserted Christianity and rejoined Hiduism because of the persecution from the Aryasamajists. Their work is mainly among the illiterates from the backward, poor communities. Their main theme is to keep Christianity from our land. They are forming groups in each village and visiting various communities with false messages against our faith. It is necessary to combat this evil foe through the printed page as well as by personal witness. The Bible Schools we propose would greatly help in this line as each young man and woman trained in the Bible Schools would become a real soldier for the cross in his or her own community to protect our Christian faith and to counteract the Aryasamajists as well as the Reds. These Aryasamajists have copied our devotion meetings.
"Enclosed, please find the photostats of two young ladies. Miss K. Deena Sundaramma and Miss K. Deenamman who were baptised by me. There are some more families ready to take baptism. Please pray for them. Very cordially yours for the Master, Ch. D. Pushpanadham."

KOREA
In this hour of terrible crisis, our allies assume an ever-increasing importance. It is a source of great joy that we have been able to commence the program of the distribution of the Heart, Mind and Soul of Communism to the Korean armed forces. $1000 has already been sent for this purpose, but we hope to send more in the future.
Here is the letter from Bob Rice, Presbyterian missionary:

"Dear Brother Pietsch:
"I do appreciate your letter of June 23 and the enclosed check of $1000.00 for printing Dr. Schwarz’s book, ‘The Heart, Mind and Soul of Communism,’ here in Korea. It is a great privilege to join with you in getting this book out here on one of the front lines of Christianity. We do pray that it will reach the hearts of many Korean officers in leading them to a fuller understanding of what Communism is, and above and beyond that of what Christianity is and means this day and time. We pray that the Spirit of God will speak to their souls as they read this book and that many of them will accept Christ as their Saviour in a very meaningful way.
"Perhaps I will have chance to see Dr. Syngman Rhee in the near future. If so I will certainly mention what you are doing for Korea. Please give my greetings to Dr. Schwarz and to all friends who have had part in getting this stirring and challenging book to the Korean people.

"Yours in Christ,
Robert F. Rice

"P.S.–Enclosed find receipt for the $1,000.00 and may the Lord continue to bless all of your work and witness for Him."

DIRECTOR OF MISSIONS
In keeping with our expanding work, we have appointed the Rev. James Colbert, Director of Missions, for the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade. Jim is one of my closest personal friends. His physical strength, coupled with his gentleness of disposition are an inspiration to those who know him. For many years he has been associated with me in the capacity of advance man. Through courageous, straight forward action, he has secured for me many remarkable speaking opportunities. He has great qualities of personal courage, clarity of thought, and unselfish dedication. As he accepts these added responsibilities, he merits the prayer and support of our friends. He will be available for speaking in churches, schools, civic groups, etc. to present a message on the nature of Communism and an outline of the program of our work. He will also be coordinator of our overseas projects. In addition he will supervise the establishment of local chapters of the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade. He merits your prayer and your support in this colossal task.
"I was first introduced to the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade through Dr. Schwarz. Between five and six years ago I invited Dr. Schwarz to speak to my congregation in Long Beach, California. When I heard him I was impressed. I was impressed with his fascinating eloquence, clear cut logic, deep conviction and Spiritual dedication. I was impressed with his message. It was a startling revelation to me, it left me with a feeling of having done very little for God and the earth’s people and a conviction that there was an urgent need for my help in the desperately serious situation that Communism was imposing upon the world. Our friendship grew and it was not long before I joined hands with Dr. Schwarz and the Crusade in a part time capacity. Even though I was engaged in a full time ministry, I had the privilege and pleasure of travelling and working some with Dr. Schwarz the next few years.
"As I travelled, studied, listened and observed I became more aware of the unprecedented danger the free people of the world faced. The ensuing years found me serving God through the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade in varied capacities. I wanted to give urgent priority to this ministry. I asked God to open the doors and make it possible. Now it has come to pass. As I accept the newly created office of Director of Missions, I feel that I have entered the most serious phase of my life’s ministry. These are such important days in which we live. The crisis is already here. We must all work hard, fact and sacrificially. We are faced with unprecedented danger.
"I think I see my obligation and duty clearly. It shall become more clear as the days go on. I have asked God for courage and His direction. I trust we shall all positionize ourselves properly so that God and Country shall have maximum service and not minimum service from our lives. I covet your prayers and help.

"Sincerely your friend,
James D. Colbert."

LETTER RECEIVED FOLLOWING MEETINGS
The response to the message delivered at meetings continues to be one of the foundations of our work. The following letter rejoiced my heart:

"Dear Doctor Schwarz:
"I listened to your lecture on Communism at the Pasadena Washington Avenue Church, and I may well say I have never had such a jolt in my whole life. If an H-Bomb had suddenly landed on our soil, I could scarcely have been more shocked.
"I’m glad I’m as old as I am and haven’t many more years to go. But for the sake of our children and all the younger generations, we older ones are under the deepest obligation to do all in our power, with all the strength, time and means at our disposal. I feel it my duty as a Christian and an American who loves my God and my country, to do all I can, and to enlist the interest and help of others in this Anti-Communist Crusade. I emptied my purse at your meeting last night.
"I would also like very much a transcript of the lecture delivered last night, and also some of the folders, ‘Will you be able to celebrate Christmas in the future?’
"I will also pray that God will bless, sustain, and prosper you in this good work.

"Yours in the Faith,"

KERALA, INDIA
The present state of the work in the Communist controlled State of Kerala, India, is shown by the following letter from George Thomas, Ph.D.:

"I am so thankful for your sincere efforts to raise the money required for the starting of a Newspaper in Kerala. I have prayed much over the proposal to request the Ford Foundation’s assistance for our program. After prayerful consideration, I have written Mr. Esminger in New Delhi. I am enclosing a copy of that letter for your reference. I trust that I have your full approval.
"As days go by, I am more assured that our project for the News Paper is very sound and that no stone should be left unturned for its realization.
"The other day, I was going through one of the Daily News Papers in Malayalam. Two news items attracted my attention. One refereed to the arrival of two thousand tons of Russian Newsprint at one of the Indian ports. The other one referred to the U.S. Government granting close to two millions dollars to cover the expenses of five Development projects in India.
"The former News item was displayed on the front page and was given about ten inches of space, while the latter was buried on the fifth page among a heap of insignificant local News and it was allotted exactly half an inch of space. This hurt me very much and I thought that if we had a News Paper the presentation of these two News items would have been quite different. I cut the two pieces and I am enclosing them, herewith, for your comparison.
"These News items appeared in a so-called independent Paper with a good standing. Then you can imagine what the Communist Dailies would do under the same circumstances. Such instances can be multiplied by the hundreds. That is why I say that a News Paper under our management can perform a tremendous service in presenting events in Western countries and their motives in the right perspective.
"I am hoping and praying that we can start the Paper in January. I do not think that we can afford to wait any longer.
"I have been making inquiries in this country about the purchase of a suitable Press for our News Paper. A Christian friend of ours, who is an expert in Rotary machines was making inquiries. He has come up with a proposal which I think is worth our consideration.
"There is a 1933 Model Obssar Flat-Bed Rotary Machine made in England available for immediate purchase. This machine is capable of printing up to eight pages of standard size at the speed of 3500 copies per hour. It will be delivered to us, erected and given us in working order for $15,000.
"We have to make a payment of $3000 against the order, $9000 on delivery and the balance in two installments, one immediately after erection and demonstration and the other after three months of erection.
"I trust you have received a copy of the June issue of ‘Viswadeepam’ and a translation of the editorial I wrote, on the Kerala Chief Minister’s statement that there would be a repetition of China in India if the opposition parties joined against the Communists. Prime Minister Nehra in a recent Press Conference stated that he is in communication with the Kerala Chief Minister about the statement. Obviously, it has annoyed Mr. Nehru. I think it is a good thing that the prime minister has at least taken notice of a serious statement of that nature.
"We have started working on the July issue of Viswadeepam. I shall appreciate your prayers as many of us work together to produce a magazine which will be appealing to the general public. I have enough orders to print 10,000 copies next month. Unless I have more financial assistance, I don’t think I will be able to print that many copies, because of the exorbitant price of paper.
"I am thankful for the $250 that the Crusade is sending. If at all possible, I would appreciate it very much if the allotment is increased to at least $400 a month. I am praying God that the Crusade finances might increase considerable so that you can add to the allotment to Kerala.

"With warm Christian greetings.
George Thomas"

You can imagine my predicament when I receive such letters. The value and need of the projects outlined is self-evident. The first reaction is to write immediately telling George to arrange for the daily newspaper. Then the cold financial realities descend upon me. We are limited to the amount of money our Christian friends supply. Some even think we appeal too much for money, yet the opportunity is so wonderful and the tragedy so great that to ignore the plea for help would be sinful and criminal. Will you please help in any way you know to enable us to meet this urgent demand from our dedicated Indian brother.

FINAL REMARKS
The needs of this expanding program are obvious. We need your prayer and your continued interest and financial support. If everyone of us gave all that we had, it still would be so little compared to the vast assets available to the enemy. Our confidence is in the power of God to multiply our gifts. In the days of His flesh, our Lord took the lunch of a little boy and fed multitudes. I am convinced that the little boy enjoyed a better lunch than had he kept his own rather than give it to the Lord. Will you go hungry, if necessary, in this battle? My prayers and the wishes of my heart are with you.

Very sincerely yours,
Fred C. Schwarz
