Apparently,
with a considerable segment of businessmen these crimes can be forgotten
because he has an urbane manner, a ready wit and a quick tongue. It is
forgotten that personal charm is always the stock-in-trade of the confidence
man. Stalin himself impressed his negotiators with his "fatherly"
manner. He earned the titles, "Good old Joe," "Uncle
Joe," while the depths of his sadistic infamy stagger the mind.
Sometimes it is the
duty of fine Christian individuals to negotiate with the most evil
characters. If a man has kidnaped a child from the home, the parents would
certainly negotiate with the kidnapper, however evil, if there was a chance
of securing the child’s release. From this point of view it may be
possible to justify the official conferences with the malevolent visitor.
For the honors bestowed upon him by businessmen and churchmen, there is no
excuse. It was a betrayal of their heritage of freedom, meriting loathing
and contempt.
We owe a debt of
gratitude to those who had the courage to picket this man of evil and remind
us of his record.
To those concerned for
the survival of Christian civilization from the advancing brutal barbarism
of Atheistic Communism, the naivete of so many in responsible positions was
discouraging but not surprising. It stresses the necessity of a vast,
continuing educational program so that the true nature of Communism is
understood by all the American people. Only then will there be a defense
against these agents of evil. A prostitute is a prostitute however beautiful
her dress. Tuberculosis is a vile disease even though it may temporarily
bestow a "false hope" upon its victim. Communism and its agents
remain the advocates of atheism, human bestiality, class warfare and
Communist world conquest.
These facts must be
driven home to the American people. The days ahead will tell the measure of
success achieved by this smiling salesman of the hangman’s rope.
OPERATION
TESTIMONY
I am sure that no representative of the Allen
Bradley Co. of Milwaukee would be found in the businessmen entertaining Mr.
Mikoyan. They continue to take the lead in the fight for the survival of
freedom. They published again the Testimony on the Communist Mind under the
heading, "Will You Be Free To Celebrate Christmas In The Future?"
in a large number of newspapers during the Christmas season just past. The
cities included Boston, Massachusetts; New Orleans, Louisiana; Phoenix,
Arizona; Miami, Florida and Ann Arbor, Michigan. Letters are streaming in.
All round the world the
tide flows:
England
England–Common Cause, Limited
Dear Doctor Schwarz,
A member of my Executive Committee some months ago brought before his
coleagues a copy of the testimony you gave before the House of Un-American
Activities earlier this year.
My Committee believed
this to be a brilliant and penetrating analysis of Communism, and the Editor
of our bulletin (Mr. H. W. Henderson), another brilliant writer on the
subject, published a full summary of your testimony in two consecutive
issues of our bulletin.
Before the second issue
appeared, there was already a demand for re-production in pamphlet form.
This pamphlet has just been produced, and I have pleasure in enclosing copy.
Several thousand copies
have already been distributed free by us to all members of the Government
and the opposition in the House of Commons, and to members of the House of
Lords including Bishops. We have also sent them to all national, daily and
Sunday newspapers, and to leading weekly magazines; also to provincial
papers throughout the country. Additionally, several hundreds have been sent
to University students.
A free copy has also
been sent to each of our members.
My Committee sincerely
hopes that, by making these pamphlets available to the public at cost price,
bulk orders will be received which will permit a further wide dissemination
of your expert knowledge.
I should add that I
also sent a number of copies to the United States Information Service in
London, with whom we are in close and friendly contact.
Yours very truly,
Hugh Myddelton

"We appreciated your generous offer
to provide our missionaries with copies of Dr. Fred Schwarz’s book,
"The Heart, Mind and Soul of Communism." This book provides a very
objective analysis of Communism and no doubt could be of help to our people.
I am sending a copy of this letter to our Mission leaders so that they could
let you know direct how many copies they could use and how they could best
be distributed.
"Could we have
your permission to reprint parts of Dr. Schwarz’s booklet in our
publication, African Challenge? We believe that for the advancement
of the gospel in this continent, we should seek to warn the people about the
dangers of this godless system.
Yours sincerely,
Harold Fuller, Director of S.I.M. Literature"

"Your statement ‘I find that without exception missionaries
literally hate Commuism but do not understand much about what it is’ is
quite true. We would be very happy to receive something like 200 copies of
the booklet "The Heart, Mind and Soul of Communism." These we
would distribute to our workers in Ethiopia and Somalia.
"We would also
appreciate it if you could send a number of copies, say 40, to our Sudan
field.
Walter A Ohman

"We are greatly interested in your offer to provide our
missionaries with copies of the book entitled, "The Heart, Mind and
Soul of Communism" by Dr. Schwarz. We value this offer, and in answer
to your query, would state that we have approximately 700 missionaries on
the field in West Africa at the present time.
"We will be
interested in hearing from you again as the Lord may lead. Please be assured
of our interest in the work you are doing and our awareness of the great
menace of this teaching.
R. J. Davis"

"I am very happy to learn from our mutual friend, Harold Fuller, of
Nigeria, that you are prepared to make available to our missionaries, copies
of Dr. Fred Schwarz’s wonderful booklet, ‘The Heart, Mind and Soul of
Communism.’
"We want to thank
you most heartily on behalf of the Sudan Interior Mission for this most
gracious gesture on your part, and trust that this book will have a mighty
influence through our whole mission body from one side of Africa to the
other.

The printing press here is used to proclaim the Gospel message in
the Telegu tongue.
Devananda Rao writes:
"Our little Babu is enjoying very
good health by the most abundant grace of our beloved Father and we do
thank Him.
"We have
selected some ICC Evangelistic Centres and our ICC Workers would stay in
those centres and preach the Word of God in the surrounding villages. They
distribute Tracts, N. T.’s, Books and Bible to the needy. They conduct
night open air meetings. They do house visitation work. They prepare the
people for baptisms. It is true that there is a wrong notion in the minds
of various villagers that Christianity is the religion of the white people
and that all the Evangelistic workers are the agents of Americans and
Europeans. The Communists and the Aryasamajists have been mispropagating
like this and it has been firmly rooted in the minds of various people. We
are combating these foes in a Christian-like way with the help of the Word
of God. The Communists and the Aryasama-jists would argue with us when we
conduct the night open air meetings in the villages. Their arguments are
quite baseless and senseless, but we do answer their every bit of question
very carefully with real Christian love so that there may not be any
danger to us, since the Communists are capable of murders. We use Gospel
Records, Pictures and slides and films-strips in our meetings and people
hear the Word of God with a real interest. We have a 35 m.m. still
projector, and we need some good slides and filmstrips. Pray for them. The
$15.00 monthly assistance to each worker has become quite insufficient
since the rates of the food-stuffs, clothes and the other commodities have
been doubled. We need $25.00 a month. I gave the $15.00 estimation
sometime in 1956 and now the situation is not so. So, will you mention it
also when you speak of our work?"
Korea
"Let me thank you again for the 70,000 edition of "The
Heart, Mind and Soul of Communism. It is now being distributed to the
troops, both in the First Army and the Second Army areas. The Korean Bible
Society is also distributing copies through its colporters. We are
distributing other copies through our Christian Revival Fellowship here in
Taegu and in other ways this book is going throughout south Korea. Please
give our deepest thanks to all who have had part in this initial project. We
hope that we can soon follow up with a second edition which will reach more
men and boys in the armed forces as well as more of the civilians in south
Korea.
"I did not know
that you have a film out, ‘Crimson Shadow.’ We can certainly use two
copies of this film in the very near future. I know the Korean Chief of
Staff, General Paik, would be more than glad to have this film shown in the
Korean army. The chaplains would be more than eager to do this job. At the
same time our Christian Revival Fellowship is anxious to show the film to
the Korean public. We can show it in most of the large churches as well as
smaller churches throughout south Korea. There are over three thousand
churches that would greatly benefit by this film. At the same time we would
invite the general public and it would be an evangelistic opportunity on the
one hand and the opportunity to show the fallacy of Communism on the other
hand.
Capt. Kim in the ROK
Chaplain Headquarters has asked me for a film which they can use in their
itinerating work among the ROK chaplains and different units. This would
certainly fit the bill. Let me hear from you at the early convenience both
as to the film and future printing of Heart, Mind and Soul of Communism for
Korea."
South America
The testimony is now being circulated to South America.
"I had 35,000
copies of "International Communism" – staff consultation before
House Un-American Activities Committee – printed. I subsequently had
10,000 more copies printed which I am distributing throughout the country.
"I am now having
the Spanish Translation printed for distribution throughout the Latin
America countries.

Thank God for patriotic Christian
businessmen.
LOCAL
GROUP FORMED TO COMBAT COMMUNISM
By Rev. Stanley R. Allaby, Pastor of Black
Rock Congregational Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut
Dr. Fred Schwarz spoke in our church on
Saturday night, June 14th. His topic was "The Communist Plan
and Timetable for the Conquest of the United States." Following his
presentation, we all sat somewhat stunned. We did not want to go home for we
felt that in the face of the danger of which we had just heard, we must do
something immediately.
It was one of our fine
Christian laymen, a medical doctor, who made his way up to the front of the
auditorium and began asking Dr. Schwarz how we might proceed on a local
level to carry on the fight against Communism. Dr. Schwarz offered some very
helpful suggestions, but said that actually we would be pioneering in this
field and we would have to feel our way along. The purpose of this article
is to share with others what we found and how we have proceeded with the
hope that other such groups will spring up all across our country.
On Sunday morning we
announced that that afternoon there would be a meeting of all interested
citizens at the pastor’s home. Having it in the pastor’s home did two
things. It made the place of meeting more attractive than just announcing a
room number in the Christian Education Building, and it showed the
congregation how vitally interested the pastor was in this cause. The
general announcement was followed up by phone calls which urged our leading
members to be present. The Pastor and the Doctor made these calls. At the
beginning of such a movement, it is very important for the two or three
interested people to do a great deal of personal contact work. Only in this
way will the group gain enough impetus to carry in into a program which will
be both ambitious and effective. You may be the one to spark such a program
in your church or community.
About twenty-five
persons attended that Sunday afternoon meeting. There were representatives
from almost every organization of the church present. We were careful to
have the youth leaders in attendance.
After a season of
prayer, Dr. Campbell told the group why we had assembled and a general
discussion was held as to what we might do on the local level to combat
communism. Notes were made of the discussion and these were evaluated at a
later time. Some of the suggestions were excellent. Others proved to be
worthless in the light of careful review.
The main accomplishmnt
of this meeting was to have each person in attendance pledge their own
personal support to this work, and the appointing of a smaller committee to
investigate plans of action and then report back to this larger group. Dr.
Campbell was appointed Chairman of the committee and other members included
two men from the educational field and a business man. Further, every person
present was urged to read as much recommended literature on this subject as
possible.
The smaller committee
began meeting every week. The first problem which they tackled was the
problem of a name for our group. This may seem like a minor problem but is
was actually quite difficult. The name must be in good taste. It must not
carry any unfortunate connotations. It must convey the purpose of the group.
It must be of such nature that the Government will grant gifts to this group
as deductible from Income Tax. The name finally settled upon was Americans
Safe-Guarding Freedom.
The second step was to
incorporate and to apply to the United States government in order to gain a
deductible status for our group. The services of an interested lawyer were
donated in this cause. Because such deductions as this usually involve a
great deal of time and red tape, we found that there might be an advantage
in becoming an affiliate of some established movement such as the Christian
Anti-Communism Crusade.
The third step which
our committee took was to invite the Pastor to teach a series of classes on
the philosophy and tactics of Communism. This class was held for fifteen
weeks on Wednesday evenings before our prayer meeting. This class was
designed to execute the most logical approach to the problem – that of
being informed so that opposition may be intelligent.
During these weeks of
instruction, our smaller committee used their privilege to expand by adding
a book seller and an efficient secretary to their committee. New members of
the committee were cleared through the F. B. I. The book seller used his
contacts and knowledge in order to make good reading material available.
Books were sold and more expensive books were offered on a rental plan. Much
free literature was also made available. The importance of the secretary is
quite obvious to every reader.
As the committee
expanded even more, it divided itself into sub-committees. One sub-committee
on Education found some excellent secondary text books on the subject of
Communism versus Democracy along with many excellent films and film strips.
These are being recommended to the State Board of Education and to our local
school authorities.
Another sub-committee
on advertising is planning a series of newspaper ads to alert the general
public to the danger of Communism. Another committee is working on
radio-television possibilities.
One of the vital
functions of this committee is to encourage and aid in the formation of
other such committees in other parts of our state. Such a meeting was called
to which ministers and laymen were invited. It seems probable that other
such groups will be formed as a result of this meeting.
After five months in
existence, the committee felt that it was time to invite Dr. Schwarz back to
the city for a city-wide rally. A local high school auditorium was used so
that people of all faiths would attend. The rally served two purposes. It
alerted our whole community to the threat of Communism (The newspapers gave
us fine cooperation), and it recruited new workers for our committee. Other
such rallies are being planned for the future.
It is amazing how many
interesting and helpful contacts you will find once people know that you are
engaged in such a work. We have had a former F. B. I. Man who joined the
Communist party in order to work for the United States government offer to
speak to our group, school teachers are bringing us sample text books on
this subject, people are sending us magazine and newspaper articles which
are relevant, others are offering their specific talents for the committee
to use. Our people are getting us opportunities to address local civic and
business groups including the Chamber of Commerce, Fraternal Orders, Church
clubs, etc.
Many people are willing
to pitch in and help, but there has to be a group started and someone has to
start it. Why don’t you start such a group in your community?
SCHOOLS
FOR ANTI-COMMUNISTS
There is no shortcut to success in any field.
The old saying that genius is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration remains
true. This applies in the field of anti-Communism. Ignorant opposition to
Communism is frequently effective service to it.
All this has been said
many times. Our positive answer to the well-meaning anti-Communist who is
frustrated by lack of knowledge is the Anti-Communist School.
We have now conducted
two of these schools, one in St. Louis, Missouri and the other in Long
Beach, California. The reaction of all participants convinces us that every
effort must be made to hold them in every section of the country. This year
we plan to hold schools in Indianapolis, on the East Coast, and in Seattle.
Many people who are
unable to attend the schools may receive the benefits via tape. Every
message is recorded and may be secured by writing to W. P. Strube, Jr.,
Secretary, Christian Anti-Communism Crusade, PO Box 6422, Houston Texas.
Recorded on tape are the messages of Ricahrd Arens, Director, House
Un-American Activities Committee, Congress, U.S.A.; Congressman Walter Judd;
Dr. Fred Schwarz; Rev. Leslie Millin, Director Freedom Foundation of Canada,
and many others.
The attendance at the
Long Beach School included Security Officers of the Los Angeles Police Dept.
and the Los Angeles Sheriffs Dept., as well as ministers, students,
teachers, and patriotic citizens. The following comments from those
attending the school are eloquent:
"This has been the
most informative week I have spent in my entire life."–Charles Sarvis,
Seattle, Washington
"After the School
at Long Beach, life takes on different proportions. The value of our present
liberties leaps to unprecedented heights. These liberties are worth
preserving at any cost. The time for such pursuits can only be now. The
miracle of these tapes is a marvel. I have been invited already to speak for
C.B.M.C., service clubs, church groups, etc. Already we have announced the
opening of an evening clinic here in Salem to begin after Christmas on a one
night a week basis."–Walter Huss, Salem Oregon
"This past week
has given me more information that my husband has gained in his three years
of reading. During the week of listening and learning I had more than one
tear fall. It was difficult to be so shaken but wondrous to hear what prayer
can do."–Mrs. Tootie Lund, Hawthorne, California
"It was
Christ-centered and adequately demonstrated the power of the Gospel in
combating Communism. I would not want any of the speakers, the material, or
the sequence of presentation changed. The films and tapes were very
worthwhile. This week left a challenge we dare not forget and by God’s
grace, my wife and I will more effectively lend ourselves to anti-Communism
both in living and giving."–Russ and Bonnie Nora, Los Angeles
"My brain is
whirling with,
1. An amazing amount of information on
the History and Philosophy of Communism
2. A good working knowledge of the Communist Party mechanism and the
methods by which it operates
3. The horrible atrocities people in China and elsewhere have to endure
when Communism takes over
I have enjoyed the Christian Fellowship.
As a Newspaper
columnist I have an opportunity to help our cause."–Pat Beardslee,
Hawthorne, California, Del Aire Improvement Assn., Inc., Ingelwood,
California

the schools, or if you have any suggestions, please write.

"HEART, MIND AND SOUL OF COMMUNISM"
"Dear Dr. Schwarz:
"Greetings in the name of Jesus
Christ our Lord. We take this opportunity to express our deepest
appreciation to your interest in and help for Korea especially with your
wonderful booklet, "Heart, Mind and Soul of Communism."
"For its second
edition, we have printed some 70,000 copies for the special distribution
among the ROK Armed Forces. Korea is the frontline to the Communist and it
is indeed a precious contribution that your booklets let the ROKA soldiers
know what Communism is and the Gospel of Jesus Christ as well.

DR PIETSCH
GOES "HOME"
On the morning of February 2 at 9:00 a.m. Dr.
W. E. Pietsch, President of the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade, passed on
to be with our Lord. He had been suffering for a long time but continued his
work with great courage and indomitable will. His loving wife and fine
missionary family will miss him sorely, as will we all. There is great
comfort in the knowledge that, "If we die with Christ; we shall also
live with Him." To know that the work of our Crusade would continue was
one of the dearest wishes of his heart. By God’s Grace, we shall not fail.
KERALA–INDIA
"What progress are you making towards the
daily newspaper for Kerala, India?" I am frequently asked this
question. This cable has now arrived.

Can you help?
George Thomas writes:
"We have already concluded the
contract for the purchase of the property. So far we have received $2,400
for this purpose. According to the contract the balance has to be paid
within the next twelve months. This, indeed, is a miracle, Bill, and how I
think the Lord for this wonderful provision. I do trust the Lord would
supply the balance in His time.
"I am eagerly
awaiting for the Lord to supply the needed funds for the paper. I need not
tell you, Bill, that Jets and Missiles will not win the battle in Kerala.
But pen and ink will. We must start the paper as soon as possible. I do
trust that you will go all out in your efforts to make the daily paper
possible in the near future.
"The entire
staff in the Viswadeepam office joins me in wishing you and all your
associates a very happy Christmas and blessed new year."
CHINA
"Dear Dr. Schwarz,
"Please pardon my delay in replying
to your good letter of Nov. 19th. When it arrived Mrs. Ming was
quite sick and I was extremely busy. These days, the ‘World Order Study
Commission’ of the N.C.C. has created more opposition among the Formosan
Protestant Church by its outrageous and iniquitous recommendations. A
meeting of Protestant leaders was called last week and we have wired a
strong protest to the N.C.C., also sending our protest by mail to President
Eisenhower, the Vice-President and the Foreign Minister. We would like to
know of any actions taken or resolutions formulated by your C.A.C.C. We also
would like to know of the results of your testimony. May God add His
blessing!
"We fight on here
in Taiwan day by day. All classes of people in Taiwan are enthusiastic about
devoting themselves and their possessions to the promotion of the ‘Anti-Communist
Front’ sponsored by President Chiang. All Christians should take ‘Put on
the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of
the devil.’ Victory in this great warfare belongs to our Lord Jesus
Christ; because light and liberty must conquer darkness and slavery.
"Thank you for
your encouragement! We will surely hold fast until the victory is finally
won.
"Mrs. Ming, Rev.
Wang Shih Ping join me in Christian love and comradeship.
"May you and yours
have a very happy Christmas and may the Lord bless you all.

THE
CRIMSON SHADOW
This film is bearing fruit. Typical is the
following extract from a letter, showing what an individual can do.
"The film has been
going ‘great guns’! For example, the film has had six dates this past
week in the Mequon, Wisconsin area . . . not far from here. I telephoned the
couple who have it last night and said that I had a request for it here next
Tuesday night and they asked to keep it through the weekend because they
have several other places to show it. I don’t stay with the film anymore.
. . . I simply deliver it from place to place. We have all fallen into a
routine when the film is shown. First, we introduce you and tell a little
about you and the Crusade while everyone is looking over the Allen-Bradley
testimony . . . then the film . . . then we have a question period in answer
to your question at the end of the film, ‘and what are you going to do
about it?’ This is where we get into the discussion about books and
publications.
Mrs. Walter Kenneth Graham
Milwaukee 11, Wisconsin"
CONCLUSION
Mikoyan comes and goes; submarine markers are
reported off the American coast to enable submarines to project their
missiles with pinpoint accuracy on major cities; the cowardly voices of
surrender swell in volume; our churches invite communists who are atheists
to speak in their pulpits, and in many cases, church literature urges the
recognition of Red China, and the admission of Communist China to the United
Nations; the bulwarks are crumbling; the enemy comes in like a flood. God
alone is adequate. He works through men. He needs you. Come to Him through
Christ. Give Him your heart and hand and march forward to victory.
