As always,
the response has been heartwarming. A number of truly sacrificial gifts have
been received. The flow of mail and income has increased substantially.
During the first twelve days of October, the Crusade has received $8,000
more than during the corresponding period of September. Most of the increase
has been in small gifts of $1 to $10.
The increased rate of
contributions must be sustained if we are to carry out our plans. A flash
flood is not good enough. Consequently it is necessary to continue the
financial appeal and to focus the attention of our friends and supporters on
our needs. Only a small percentage of our constituency has responded so far.
Our regular worldwide ministry requires $50,000 monthly to sustain it.
Additional projects we
are preparing to undertake include:
1) An educational campaign on the true
nature of communism in Thailand.
2) Training 1,000 university and college students to combat communism on
their campuses.
Thailand
The strategic location of Thailand is shown by the accompanying map.
What the map does not show is the "peoples’ war" that is raging
in a number of areas. The situation in Thailand today corresponds roughly
with the situation in South Vietnam a few years ago. It will be tragic,
indeed, if the situation that prevails today in South Vietnam is repeated in
Thailand within the next few years.
Military activity is a
late stage of the communist malignancy. At an earlier stage the communists
concentrate upon deceiving the people and recruiting them around specific
grievances. During the stage of deception, the most potent weapon is
knowledge. Without specific knowledge, liberty-loving and religious patriots
can be deceived and trapped.
We are fortunate to
have a man of the caliber of Dr. Sluis ready to go to Thailand to launch
this program. He could be earning a large personal income by concentrating
upon the practice of his profession of orthopedic surgery. The preservation
of the freedom of mankind takes precedence in his life, and he willingly
sacrifices his personal interests and leaves his family for long periods.
His work in British Guiana proved outstandingly successful, and a similar
program in Thailand should achieve comparable results.
Training Campus Anti-Communists
It is now no secret that the college student is the prime target of the
communists. Past communist success has been due to their ability to recruit
intelligent students and train them as leaders. They have been able to do
this by appealing to the idealism of these students with two seductive
promises:
a) Communist success will abolish the
specter of war from the earth.
b) Communist success will create a new and superior quality of man.
Today these
two promises of communism can be revealed for the delusions that they are.
This provides a unique opportunity to deal a mortal blow to communist
student recruitment.
The fierce conflict
between Communist China and Soviet Russia reveals the falsity of the promise
that communism automatically abolishes war.
The reality in
Communist Russia and Communist China renders ridiculous the claim that
socialist society creates regenerate man.
A Socialist Scholar’s
Conference was held in New York from September 9-11. 2,000 persons attended.
The keynote address was given by an old Marxist and friend of Trotsky, Isaac
Deutscher. During his address he stated:
"The
Socialist Man Stalin presented to the world was the hungry, ill-clad,
ill-shod or even barefoot worker or peasant, selling or buying a shirt, a
piece of furniture, a few ounce of meat or even a piece of bread on black
or gray markets, working 10 to 12 hours a day under a barrack-like factory
discipline and, sometimes, paying for any real or alleged offense with
years of forced labor in a concentration camp. He did not dare to
criticize a factory manager, let alone a party boss. He had no right to
express any opinion on any major issue affecting his and the nation’s
destiny. He had to vote as he was ordered; to applaud the Leader with
frantic enthusiasm, as he was ordered; and to let his dignity and
personality be mocked by the so-called personality cult. . . Although in
recent years the conditions have been greatly mitigated, the poverty, the
inequality, the lack of political and intellectual freedom, and the
bureaucratic terror are still there." (National Guardian, September
24, 1966, Page 8)
In spite of this
reality, Deutshcer continued to present the vision of ultimate human
perfection under socialism, but he was obviously on the defensive.
Our trained students
debating with the communists on the campuses can defeat the Marxists in the
war for the mind.
We intend to conduct
two anti-communism schools for students next summer–one in Washington,
D.C. and one on the West Coast. We hope to provide scholarships for suitable
students to cover support, tuition, food and lodging.
I stated that we needed
an additional $100,000 to sustain our established programs and to carry out
these new ones. Because of the generous response to our initial appeal, that
figure is now reduced to $85,000. We hope to receive the full amount by the
year’s end. I will keep you informed of our progress from time to time.
Please send your
sacrificial donation as soon as possible. We must take advantage of the
remarkable opportunities that exist at present.

These are now available in a colored album, and they make an ideal Christmas
gift. The cost is $10.
CHRISTMAS 1966
Each year some individuals, families, and
firms choose to honor their friends, business associates, and customers by
making a Christmas contribution to the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade. We
have prepared a special Christmas card to be sent to those honored, to
inform them that the gift has been made.
This Christmas, cards
will be provided with mailing envelopes in the quantity requested. There is
no charge for these cards. They are freely available to those who donate to
the Crusade to honor their friends.
If requested, and the
order is substantial, the name of an individual or firm will be printed on
the cards. The plural "we" can be changed to the singular
"I" if this is desired.
The front of the card
is pictured below. Alongside it is the message inside the card.
Let me know the number of
cards you desire. You may simultaneously honor your friends and fight for
freedom.
(The card will be 7-3/8" X 3-3/4")
The card says:
A gift has been made to the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade in your honor.
We have chosen this method to express our sincere wishes for your
prosperity, well-being, and happiness this Christmas season.
Christmas reminds us of
the living Christ and fills our hearts with good will. It disperses the fog
of pessimism and despair created by the prevailing climate of materialism,
the deadly doctrine of the death of God, and the prevalence of war.
The Christian
Anti-Communism Crusade is working to preserve our heritage of freedom and
the spirit of Christmas. To support them is to help preserve this heritage
for our children. The plans of communism must be defeated. The message of
the Prince of Peace must ring round the world.
