SUMMER SCHOOLS OF ANTI-COMMUNISM FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS

Dear Friend:

The Washington School of Anti—Communism will be held in the Mayflower Hotel, Connecticut Avenue and DeSales Northwest, Washington, D.C. from Monday, July 3, throu9h Friday, July 7.

The Midwest School of Anti—Communism will be held in the Sheraton Cadillac Hotel, Washington Boulevard and Michigan Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, from July 17, through July 21.

The precise lime and place of the West Coast School of Anti-Communism has not yet been decided. The school will be held in late August.

These schools have been designed to meet the specific needs of students and teachers, but they are open to any individual who desires to be more effective in the struggle against communism.

We urge our active supporters to make an effort to attend one of these schools. Many older persons will find it an exhilarating experience to mingle with students from today’s campuses. This intermingling should prove mutually beneficial; the older folk may be stimulated to acquire new knowledge, and the students may gain respect for experience and maturity.

The faculties have been carefully selected. They include many professors of the highest academic stature as well as individuals with specific knowledge and experience in an important area. The faculties will be announced shortly.

We plan to grant 500 student and teacher scholarships to each of these schools. These scholarships will not cover the full expense of transportation, accommodation, and food but will make a substantial contribution towards it.

In Washington, D.C. the students will be accommodated three or four to a room. The Mayflower Hotel charges $22 for a room for three and $25 for a room for four. Those granted a scholarship will receive $55 towards their expenses.

In Detroit students will live three or four to a room and the Sheraton Cadillac Hotel is charging $5 each per day. Those granted a scholarship to attend the Midwest School of Anti—Communism will receive $45.

Food is additional to the price of accommodation both in Washington, D.C. and Detroit.

The scholarship money will be paid towards the end of the school when the student has shown satisfactory attendance and conduct.

The purpose of the school is to train convinced anti-communists so that they can be effective in the battle for freedom on their own campuses and in their classrooms. The primary purpose is not to convert the communists, communist sympathizers, or neutrals to anti—communism. Scholarships will be granted only to those who affirm their opposition to communism and their desire to fight against it.

Preference will be given to students nominated by supporters of the Christian Anti—Communism Crusade. Scholarships will be granted to senior high school students who are planning to attend college as well as to students already attending college. Our supporters are invited to nominate students they wish to attend.

Negotiations are proceeding to televise portions of these schools. We are hopeful that these negotiations will be successfully concluded. The television stations in Washington, D.C. are willing to discuss the project, and that is an improvement over the situation that existed in 1964.

It is hardly necessary to stress the importance of these ventures and the investment they will be in the maintenance of freedom. The communists and the forces of sedition are making every effort to recruit students and to enroll them into groups dedicated to the revolutionary overthrow of the constitution of the United States. The New Left is aiming to control student and faculty life on many major university campuses and to stimulate opposition to American policy in Vietnam, hatred of the United States, and civil disobedience. They are making alarming progress in some universities and colleges.

It is much better to promote a positive program to recruit and train students to serve the cause of freedom than to bemoan the existing condition on the college campus.

Many teachers are confronted with the task of teaching a course on communism without adequate training or literature.

We cannot achieve our objective without the wholehearted support of the friends of the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade and those who love freedom. Individuals may help in the following way:

1) Attend a school personally.
2) Attend by proxy by contributing a scholarship for a student.
3) Notify students concerning these schools and the availability of scholarships.
4) Make a substantial contribution to the cost of these schools.
5) Collect from friends and businessmen in your area on behalf of these schools.

We need $100,000 by July 3. The time to act is now!

HAVE YOU STARTED A STUDY GROUP?

One album of long—playing records, one copy of “You Can Trust the Communists (to be Communists),” one book containing “What is Communism” lecture series, and one workbook will be given to anyone to start a study group. The value of this set is $12.

Janet Greene’s records are great for schools. A recent letter states: “A teacher in Redwood City is using the records of Janet Greene in his 6th grade classes. The students are especially fond of ‘The Hunter and the Bear’ as it is such a graphic illustration of what the communist threat really can do.”

Why not purchase a set of records for your children or for your local school? PRICE: 1 record, $1; 4 records, $2.50.

The Unbelievable Dr. Littell

Dr. Franklin H. Littell, President of Iowa Wesleyan College and Chairman of the Institute for American Democracy, Inc., has written to several people denying that he has ever referred to me in any radio broadcast. Two of these

Dear Sir:

I don’t know what Mr. Schwarz said in his issue of “Christian Anti- Communism Crusade,” since I have better things to read. However, I have not referred to Mr. Schwarz in my radio broadcast and can only conclude that, from what people who have followed his career tell me, this is either inaccuracy on your part or perhaps a customary inaccuracy on his.

Sincerely Yours,

Franklin H. Littell

Dear Sir:
I didn’t say that “Mr. Schwarz is as phony as a $3.00 bill.” Your information is mistaken.

Sincerely Yours,

Franklin N. Littell
President

These statements can only be classed as deliberate dishonesty on the port of Dr. Littell. He did state in a broadcast over Radio Station WHO, on November 21, 1966, that the “character who runs the so—called Christian Anti— Communism Crusade is a $3 bill.”

Since I am the “character who runs the Christian Anti—Communism Crusade,” it follows by the laws of logic that he stated that I am a $3 bill. Our friends who heard the broadcast and who forwarded a tape recording of it to us, had not the slightest doubt that he was referring to me.

The fact that Dr. Littell may have had another person in mind does not alter the fact that he specifically nominated “the man who runs the Christian Anti—Communism Crusade.” He even pronounced the name of the Crusade correctly which is unusual.

In order to make the record absolutely clear, I will repeat the exact words of Dr. Littell:

“The other thing which is important, of course, is how you check out the credentials of clergymen or self—styled clergymen. For example, the most obscene and violent leader of America’s spiritual underworld from the church side, who has 770 radio programs a week, who said two weeks before the assassination of President Kennedy, ‘Somewhere, somehow, John F. Kennedy must be stopped,’—a wicked man, in other words, is a defrocked preacher of the Presbyterian Church and anybody who knows this and sees the way his whole life has been shaped in an effort to get back at the people who disciplined him for conduct unworthy of a minister, can see what they’re dealing with.

“The same thing is true of another character who runs the so—called Christian Anti—Communism Crusade. He calls himself both Reverend and Doctor. He bought his degree for $80 from a diploma mill in Colorado Springs, Colorado, which has been condemned by Health, Education, and Welfare as a fraud, and yet he pawns himself off on the public as an authority on communism and calls himself Reverend and Doctor. He’s neither. Re’s a three—dollar bill, and anyone who checked up on these persons with any care would see lust what is involved in the racket they are running.”

We will willingly send a tape recording of this statement by Dr. Littell to anyone who requests it.

Dr. Littell has discredited both himself and his organization.

THE RAPE OF LOVE

Love is possibly the sweetest and most sublime word in the language, but today it has been stolen by vandals and
is being used to dignify the filthy, the obscene, and the criminal. One illustration of this is given by this pamphlet where “LOVE” symbolizes revolutionary violence:

The word chosen by the so—called “hippies to symbolize a way of life characterized by promiscuity, filth, drug taking, homosexuality, and indolence is “love.” It is tragic when this pattern of life receives the cooperation of the “Christian” church. This is taking place in San Francisco where the Glide Memorial Church allegedly “ministers” to the hippie crowd. The Glide Memorial Church is financed by the Glide Foundation, now worth $7.5 million. The Glides were godly Christian people who devoted their fortune to maintain an evangelistic center. The Glide Memorial Church has five full—time clergy, 14 lay employees, and an annual budget of $385,000 although its members only give about $10,500.

The Berkeley Barb of Friday, March 3, 1967, told about a big party when Glide turned its plant over to the hippies and beatniks: “Last Friday night, into that stately stone building at the edge of San Francisco’s Tenderloin, streamed the hip, the beat, the tuned-in and the dropped-out. The sermon was ‘This is It-- Dig it Now.’ And the Mass was black..Sponsored by the Artists’ Liberation Front, the Happening had been dubbed ‘The Invisible Circus.’ But fully visible for the peripatetic voyeur were such sights as a naked man moving easily around the main sanctuary; a score of belly dancers--some topless; passion requited within the recesses of a small chapel; and for the straight plastic, ‘stag’ movies.”

The communist formula for the conquest of the United States is, “External encirclement, plus internal demoralization, leads to progressive surrender.” How far the process of demoralization has matured is revealed when the Methodist Church can tolerate such happenings.
The superb description of love given by St. Paul must be reaffirmed. “Love suffers long and is kind; love envies not; love bears all things; believes all things; hopes all things; endures all things. Love never fails.” I Cor. 13

Yours very sincerely,
Fred Schwarz
