| THE ASSASSINATION CONSPIRACY Dear Friend: Dramatic developments are unfolding in the investigation of the assassination of President Kennedy. District Attorney Garrison of New Orleans claims that he has evidence of a conspiracy to assassinate the President that was hatched in New Orleans. There is a report, unconfirmed at the time of writing, that the evidence points to Fidel Castro of Cuba as the ultimate author of the plot. Three of the alleged conspirators have been named and one has been arrested. The other two are dead. The arrested man is Clay L. Show, retired director of the International Trade Mart. The other two are the trigger—man, Lee Harvey Oswald, who was gunned down by Jack Ruby, and an airplane pilot, David Ferrie, who died suddenly in mysterious circumstances after the district attorney announced he was under investigation. It remains to be seen whether the claims of Attorney Garrison will be substantiated. However, this explanation appears much mare sensible than the generally accepted conclusion that the murder was the relatively motiveless crime of a psychopath who acted entirely on his own initiative. The existence of such a conspiracy does not necessarily conflict with the verdict of the Warren Commission. The Warren Commission stated that they found no evidence of the existence of such a conspiracy. This is very different from stating that a conspiracy did not exist. Many a murder has occurred for which the murderer was never discovered. This does not mean the murderer did not exist. The Motive Any reader of detective stories knows that the first thing an investigator looks for is motive. No one had a better motive for the murder of President Kennedy than Fidel Castro. He had been humiliated during the missile crisis when President Kennedy confronted Khrushchov and compelled him to promise to remove the missiles from Cuba without so much as consulting Castro. He felt personally threatened by alleged agents of the C. I .A. whom he believed were conspiring to assassinate him. He even gave the grim warning, “The American leaders should consider that their own persons might not be safe.” Oswald the Castroite The assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, was a devout fan of Fidel Castro. He represented the Fair Play for Cuba Committee in New Orleans. A visit to Mexico during the immediate period prior to the assassination suggests contact with Cuba. The Brilliant Debater The widely believed idea that Lee Harvey Oswald was a psychopath motivated by blind hatred yielding to compulsive homicidal impulse simply does not make sense. The assassination required far—sighted and meticulous Planning and rigid self—discipline. Radio interviews in New Orleans including a debate with Ed Butler of the Information Committee of the Americas reveal that Oswald was intelligent, articulate, and remarkably restrained under provocation. He was obviously a well—trained agent. The Lynch Mob A bonus of the assassination was the immediate public outcry against the so called “Right Wing.” From the Chief Justice down, hysterical individuals immediately blamed the assassination on the hate climate in Dallas generated by “right wing extremists.” If the assassin had escaped, it is probable that many innocent parties, classified as “right wing extremists,” would have undergone persecution. Oswald very nearly escaped. When he met and shot Officer Tippet, he was very close to the highway running southwest towards the Mexican border. By driving a few miles along this highway to a rendezvous with a small plane which would fly him to Mexico, he could have vanished from the scene. The ideological lynch mob would have been unrestrained and who knows what hideous acts would have occurred. It is still the season for personal self-examination followed by genuine repentance and recompense on the part of those who yielded to hysteria and indulged in false accusations. Till they show their good faith in this manner, they have forfeited the right to the respect of reasonable men. They were the potential promoters of lynch law. The evidence is overwhelming that the slogan “Communism Killed Kennedy” is accurate, and the lessons of this tragedy should not be forgotten DR. SLUI S RETURNS FROM THAILAND After a most instructive and challenging visit to Thailand and Vietnam, Dr. Sluis has now returned to the U.S. We plan to publish a full report on his journey in our next newsletter. Long—range prospects for effective service are very good, and there are a number of projects demanding immediate attention. Here is a typical incident: “In Chiengmai, the second largest city, I met the Chief Justice of the Provincial Court who lectures on law and communism at Chiengmai University. To my amazement he had read ‘You Can Trust the Communists (to be Communists)’ and described it as one of the best in the field. He had used the chapter on ‘Brainwashing’ in writing his own book on the subject. He introduced me to the Commander of the Police Training Center. It soon became apparent to me that his interests ranged far beyond law enforcement. He complained about the failure of a film on the nature of communism to arrive for a scheduled showing near the Burmese border. They use films in English by first listening to the sound track and translating it into Thai. Fortunately, I was able to send him a copy of ‘My Latvia’ the very next day. He also asked me for posters, simple comic-type books about communism and any other materials we might be able to provide.” Dr. Sluis is available to lecture to selected groups.
His address is: Joost Sluis, M. D., Christian Anti—Communism Crusade,
307 Hobart Building, 582 Market Street, San Francisco, Calif. 94104 The study group has proved to be the most effective instrument in training leadership for the struggle against communism. The tools hove now been devised that will make it possible for those who desire to do so to conduct a study group effectively. The Tools The tools needed are: 1. A record player. To Conduct a Study Group When the group convenes, it is advisable to open with an invocation and the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States. This is followed by playing the first lecture from the recorded series, “What is Communism.” Each member of the group should have a workbook. The chairman of the group should announce before the lecture that special attention should be paid as they will answer the questions on the lecture when it is completed. During the lecture they may have the book open at the questions. The lecture lasts 14 minutes. When it has ended, the class is given five minutes (mare or less if desired) to fill in the answers. The answers are then corrected in the following manner: 1. Two neighboring individuals transfer their books to
each other. Each individual marks the answer, right or wrong, in the book he holds. The correct answers are totaled. The question will often arise as to whether an answer means the same thing as the official answer even though the words are different. A referee should be appointed who rules in such doubtful cases and the referee’s decision should be considered final. Competition adds interest and promotes effort. The class
members should be encouraged to compete for the highest score. The total
of correct answers should be kept and, when the 14 lectures are completed,
the one who has the most correct answers is the winner. A prize for the
winner may be provided. The Textbook Many groups will wish to include the book in their course of study as well as the records. This can be done as follows: 1) A chapter in the book s allotted for home study; 2) Following the completion of the lecture and the answering of the questions, the class s asked to answer the questions in the workbook on the allotted chapter. These answers are then corrected in the same manner as the answers to the questions on the lecture. It is a good idea to have one member of the class give a 5-10 minute summary of the contents of the chapter before the questions are answered. While advisable, this is not essential. A class which includes study of both a lecture and a chapter of the book can be completed in one hour. QUESTION: How many are needed to form a study group? Q: Who should conduct a study group? Q: Where should study g1oups be held? Q: When should a study group be held? Q: How much will a study group cost? 1) “What is Communism” lecture series text $ .50 The Crusade will donate one set of records and the three books to anyone who will undertake to start a study group. Q: What should a student do when he has completed the
study course? Q: Are other study materials available? May I conclude by asking this question, “Will you form a study group?” If your answer is “yes,” please notify me and I will be greatly encouraged. BRAINWASHING A man was hired to receive a beating in place of the guilty man, who was rich. The whip cracked hard and the pain was unbearable. The man begged the officer to ease up and bribed him with the money he had received. When the beating was over, he crawled to the rich man and said gratefully: “If it hadn’t been for the money you gave me, I might have been beaten to death.” This reminds us of the gratitude to Khrushchov when he
promised to remove the missiles from Cuba. An organization called the “Institute for American Democracy” has been formed with the avowed purpose of fighting extremism of the Right and the Left. It is headed by Dr. Franklin Littell who is the President of Iowa Wesleyan College of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. On November 21, 1966, Dr. Littell broadcast in Des Moines, Iowa, over WHO, a prestigious 50,000—watt radio station. Among other things, he said the following: “The other thing which is important, of course, is how
you check out the credentials of clergymen or self-styled clergymen. For
example, the most obscene and violent leader of America’s spiritual underworld
from the church side, who has 770 radio programs a week, who said two
weeks before the assassination of President Kennedy, “The same thing is true of another character who runs the so—called Christian Anti—Communism Crusade. He calls himself both Reverend and Doctor. He bought his degree for $80 from a diploma mill in Colorado Springs, Colorado, which has been condemned by Health, Education, and Welfare as a fraud, and yet he pawns himself off on the public as an authority on communism and calls himself Reverend and Doctor. He’s neither. He’s a three—dollar bill, and anyone who checked up on these persons with any care would see just what s involved in the racket they are running.” It is clear that Dr. Littell should pay attention to the
command of Christ, “You hypocrite, first cast the beam out of your own
eye and then you will see clearly to cast the mote out of your brother’s
eye.” Luke 6:42 1. Outrageous falsehoods. The statement begins with a vicious attack on the Reverend Carl Mclntire. It contains no specific charges but calls him, “Obscene, violent, leader of the spiritual underworld, wicked,” etc. By taking a statement out of context, if it was ever made, he tries to link Carl Mclntire to the assassination of President Kennedy. How can one fall lower? Having established the “evil” character of Mclntire to his satisfaction, he then states, “The same thing is true of another character who runs the so—called Christian Anti—Communism Crusade.” He then adds some outrageously false statements. The bottom of the intellectual and moral barrel appears to have been scraped to find the leader of the “Institute for American Democracy.” I have written the following letter to Dr. Littell: (March 4, 1967) “Dear Doctor Littell: “A tape recording of a program which was broadcast over Radio Station WHO, Des Moines, Iowa, on November 21, 1966, has been sent to me. On this program, an individual who claimed to be you, made the following statement: ”’The same thing is true of another character who runs the so—called Christian Anti—Communism Crusade. He’s a three-dollar bill, and anyone who checked up on these persons with any care would see just what is involved in the racket they are running.’ “I am the President of the Christian Anti—Communism Crusade, and I direct its activities. My doctorate refers to my medical degrees which I earned at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I have never claimed to be a Reverend but merely a lay preacher in the Baptist Church in Australia. “May I ask you the following question: Did you make this statement or was some individual impersonating you? “If you did make this statement, I request that you publish an immediate retraction. This is the minimum recompense and it should be given without hesitation by a man with a Christian conscience or any degree of personal integrity. “I hope to receive your retraction immediately and not be compelled to take further action.” SIGNED: Fred Schwarz No reply has yet been received. Fortunately all ministers do not have such an attitude. After wallowing in the mire with Dr. Littell, I read a letter such as the following and felt cleansed: “I am a retired minister and am living on limited means so I am not able to give you the tangible help you need and deserve, but 1 do want to say that I believe strongly in the kind of work you are doing. 1 have a feeling of frustration when I see the leaders of our country trying to fight communism with material handouts and military struggle, and yet apparently doing nothing to deflate the claims of the communists nor doing anything to get hold of men’s minds with the truth. It seems to me the problem is more a moral one and our leaders do not appear to be very deeply committed to a strong moral position. It has already been proved that the soldiers with the strongest religious backgrounds who were taken prisoner by the Reds withstood their brainwashing better than those without any religious faith. I do not think it does any good to ‘fight the Devil with fire’ because he is a past master in the use of fire. He can best be fought with truth because he is a liar and the father of it. So it seems to me that your effort to teach people what communism is and what the antidote for it is, does more to defeat it than anything else. “I recall seeing you on a national TV program quite a while ago - I think it was ‘Meet the Press’ or ‘Face the Nation.’ Anyway your ‘inquisitors’ sat there and probed and probed at you seeking to find a vulnerable spot where they could make you look bad to the whole country. They were not seeking the truth nor trying to establish what you were doing. They were interested only in trying to tear you down. And all the while you sat there refuting their charges with documents, your stature growing steadily larger until you filled all my TV screen. “I have read ‘You Can Trust the Communists’ and I think
it should be read by all college students. I ‘ “Yours in Christian brotherhood, A. L. Lonsberry, 711
Academy Street, Dallas, Oregon 97338” We have received many letters inquiring about the Consular
Convention which is presently before the Senate. We are reprinting a statement
of Senator Thomas J. Dodd of Connecticut on this important subject: Senator Dodd advanced the following four reasons against the ratification of this Convention: 1. The Convention is based on the premise that there is a growing detente between the Soviet Union and the West. This premise is entirely false. The Communists have never waged the cold war more energetically or aggressively. To the extent that the Soviets have succeeded in. persuading us that a detente does exist, however, they have been able to disarm us psychologically. The ratification of the Consular Convention at this juncture can only serve to further promote the myth of the detente and to lull us into the dangerous delusion that the cold war is ending. 2. The treaty has exceedingly grave implications for the security of the American states. 3. The absolute immunity which the treaty confers on Consular officials, Consular employees, and Consular premises violates all the norms of existing Consular Conventions. It is wrong in principle and although the security problems posed by this immunity would not be insuperable, they are far from insignificant. The damage done is all the greater because of the chances that the pattern will become worldwide. 4. The ratification of the Consular Convention at this juncture runs counter to the policy of firmness that we are today pursuing in Vietnam and, like all unilateral concessions to totalitarian regimes, it would serve to make peace less secure rather than more secure. Senator Dodd also pointed out that whereas other Consular agreements made it possible to presume the permission of the responsible Consular officer to enter Consulate premises in the event of fire or other disaster, or in the event of a crime of violence, the Consular Convention with the Soviet Union, for the first time in the history of such agreements categorically prohibits entry into a Consular establishment without the permission of the head of the establishment. “Under this rigid wording” said Senator Dodd, “the Fire Department would not be permitted to enter a Soviet consulate without permission of the Soviet authorities, even if fire threatened adjoining premises. Anyone who has the least appreciation of how rapidly fires can spread should understand that a half hour’s delay or even a few minutes’ delay can have catastrophis consequences. But apparently those responsible for drafting the treaty did not even pause to consider the implication for public safety of the clause to which they were agreeing. “Under this clause, too, the police would be forbidden
to enter a Soviet consulate even if they knew as a certainty that murder
or some other serious crime was being committed there.” “The entire Consular Convention”, said Senator Dodd, “is
so shoddy a lob of diplomacy and draftsmanship that those who favor it
in principle should consider whether it should not be sent back for complete
redrafting.” CORRESPONDENCE ON THE LOMAX DEBATE A flood of letters was received following my debate with Louis Lomax over KTTV, Channel 11, Los Angeles, Sunday, February 19. Most who wrote were very kind and complimentary. I want to take this opportunity of thanking you as there have been far too many letters to answer them all personally. Typical comments are: “Your ‘offensive’ last night was tremendous. Persistent, logical, aggressive, you outmaneuvered Lomax as well as the ‘dock’.” “My conservative friends and I have been following you since about 1960 at which time we first became aware of the progress being made by communism. We were so terrified by the new knowledge that we ran in every direction trying to accomplish something. We were dissipating our energies pretty much as you described on the Lomax program (as you said Louis was asking you to do). You’re ‘tops’ with us as a leader in anti—communism.” “You did beautifully and it was a real pleasure to see professional answers to loaded and irrelevant questions. also, we liked your ‘specialization’ replies. Isn’t it odd how the Left Liberal refers to your sending a few dollars out of the country while he doesn’t mind billions of foreign aid by the government.” “I think you did an admirable job of setting the record straight for those viewers who had accepted as true, false rumors and statements regarding the work being done by the Christian Anti—Communism Crusade.” “You are the first person that we’ve ever heard ‘out—talk’ Louis Lomax.” “I only wish you could have a weekly T.V. show to correspond with your newsletter.” CONCLUSION We stand at the threshold of an era overflowing with opportunity
and challenge. We have exciting plans for Television, Student Schools
of Anti—Communism, and work in Thailand, Vietnam, and many other areas.
We have never felt as encouraged or as inadequate as we do now. Your prayerful
help is needed desperately. The hour has struck for an attack on all fronts. As Winston Churchill stated in England’s darkest hour, “Our objective is victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival.” |
