Crusade observers attended this conference. They found it a frightening experience. They were searched for weapons every time they entered the hall, and wallets were examined minutely. The fanatical earnestness and irrational frenzy of those present was awe-inspiring. Every reference to the killing of policemen and white political leaders was met with ecstatic and prolonged applause.

            About 3,000 attended the conference. There were about five whites for every black present. Most of those attending were young. The hippie and yippie types were in the minority.

            The emphasis of the conference was that fascism controls America now. Time and again it was stressed, “We have Reagan in Sacremento, Nixon in the White House, Hayakawa at San Francisco State, and Alioto in San Francisco.” Constant reference was also made to Governor Rockefeller as a fascist oppressor.

            Jeff Jones of SDS spoke and bragged, “Our program is to come back to the campus this fall and hit them harder than they have ever been hit before.”

            The notorious left wing attorney, Bill Kunstler, spoke on political prisoners and political freedom. He urged blacks to kill white policemen when they entered the black ghetto. He told the story of how a white policeman, John Gleason, was stomped to death in Plainfield, New Jersey. The crowd broke into prolonged applause. Kunstler proceeded to state that in his opinion Gleason deserved that death. Gleason signed his own death warrant. There was no necessity for a trial. The crowd executed him in the most dramatic way. Their reason was 400 years of pillaging and marauding by the white power structure in black areas. Kunstler pointed out that no white policeman has set foot in the black ghetto of Plainfield, New Jersey since July, 1967. He concluded his harangue with an urge to kill. These were his words, “It is almost worse to be able to defend yourself and then to freeze on the trigger when the time comes.”

BREAKFAST POISON

            The Black Panthers are publicizing their program to provide breakfasts for underprivileged children. The food is accompanied by mental and emotional poison. They are seeking to raise a generation of haters and killers. This is shown by the following cartoons which were distributed to children at breakfast at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, San Francisco, California.

SDS BLUEPRINT FOR VIOLENT CIVIL WAR

            When arraigned before the bar of history on the charge of failure to act intelligently and decisively to curb the destructive plans of the communist enemy, no one will be able to plead ignorance concerning those plans. The communist controllers of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) advertise their plans without restraint. A cursory reading of NEW LEFT NOTES, the official publication of Students for a Democratic Society, will reveal the plans in fearsome detail.

            One dominant faction in SDS is the Revolutionary Youth Organization which took a leading part in the moves at the SDS convention which led to the expulsion of the Progressive Labor Party. Mike Klonsky, immediate past national secretary of SDS, and presently a member of the National Interim Committee, is a member of R.Y.O. He is the son of Robert Klonsky, once a wide ranging Communist Party organizer who was among other C.P. leaders convicted in 1955 in a Philadelphia Smith Act case and sentenced to two years in prison.

            The Revolutionary Youth Organization played a leading part in the expulsion of the Progressive Labor Party from SDS. It attacked PL from the vantage point of a communist group with unquestioned militancy and revolutionary fervor dedicated to the teachings of Mao Tse-tung. NEW LEFT NOTES of July 8, contains a statement by the Revolutionary Youth Movement. Here are some of the views of the Revolutionary Youth Movement:

American Society

            “Our Society is dying out. Not only here but on a world scale, in a historic sense. Imperialism, the monopoly phase of capitalism, is nearing its closing hours. Our epoch is the epoch of the final collapse of imperialism and the final worldwide victory of socialism. Imperialism, fully moribund, manifests its decay everywhere. It pollutes all that is fresh, alive, vital and growing. The young in general, but particularly among the oppressed classes and strata, are among the hardest hit by decaying imperialism. Hardest hit and most willing to fight back–that is the youth movement.” Page 5.

Civil War

            “No ruling class in history has ever retired peacefully from the scene. Furthermore, no revolution has ever succeeded without the existence, for a long or short period, of some form of dual power, whether that be territorial, as in the case of the liberated zones of China and Cuba, or right under the nose of the existing power, as in the case of the Russian Soviets. In the U.S. the victory of the proletariat will not take place without a violent civil war and the existence of some form of dual power.” Page 5.

            “The youth movement will not only be in the leading ranks of the armed struggle, but it can now begin to prepare the people for the necessity of armed struggle, supporting armed self-defense on the part of all oppressed people, explaining the nature of the state and supporting peoples war.”

Communism and Anti-Communism

            “The youth movement can play a role in the development of a party by fighting anti-communism, developing communist ideology, and taking communist ideology to the mass of the people.” Page 9.

            “We must take seriously the job of helping to build the Communist Party. There is no such Communist Party which exists today, no party which both represents the interests of the proletariat and has any mass base among the proletariat. There are things which we can do to help prepare for it.

            “We must study revolutionary principles of organization as Lenin, Mao, and other have written about them, develop collective methods of work and decision-making, and fight anti-communism along with elitism, manipulation, and individualism.

            “Finally the principles of Marxism-Leninism must be talked about openly in all our mass work and anti-communism taken on at every step.” Page 10.

Women’s Liberation

            “Further division and control of the proletariat has been effected through the ideology and practice of male supremacy. Male supremacy has arisen out of the relation of women to the means of production in society.

            “The youth movement must fight against the male supremacist structure of this decadent society and manifestations of this in the superstructure. We must raise and join women’s struggles throughout the working class and pay particular attention to the fight against male supremacy withing our own ranks.” Page 9.

Strikes

            “Serving the people means giving material support to the many militant strikes and wildcats. In doing this we must attack the employer–the corporation or company–on an anti-imperialist basis whenever possible. The boycott against Standard Oil during the Richmond strike is a good example: give support on the picket line and in the boycott, but raise the anti-imperialist aspect of the struggle against Standard Oil.” Page 9.

Military Subversion

            “We must take our movement to the youth in the military by going into the armed services and contributing our support to the anti-imperialist movement which already exists among the GIs.” Page. 9.

Black and Brown Struggle

            “We will try to win the mass of people to support of the black and brown people’s right to arm in self-defense against the military occupation of their communities.

            “In addition, we must use all the means available to use as a means to prevent the leading elements of the movement such as the BPP and individuals leaders from being imprisoned or killed.” Page 9.

            “The struggle for self-determination of Afro-American and Puerto Rican people is the principal anti-imperialist struggle we can relate to. We must support and follow their leadership in their actions against the imperialists; and at all times fight white supremacy through demands for black and Latin equality, and national self-determination whether the black and brown people on our campuses, in shops, and in the community are in motion or not.” Page 9.

Courts

            “While courts are still available to us as a means of defense, we should use them to the fullest extent, using the opportunity each times we appear in court to make clear the political nature of the police, courts, and attacks on individuals.” Page 9.

Violence

            “In addition we must be prepared to defend ourselves by whatever means necessary when the courts can’t serve even the minimal protection they now provide. We must become skilled in the use of weapons and be prepared to use them to defend ourselves if attacked. We must also prepared ourselves by securing our offices and homes to prevent them from confiscating important files and materials.

            “Armed attacks by the state must be used by the movement to explain to the people the necessity of arming for self-defense and the nature of the state. We must take every opportunity to explain that the state cannot be challenged except through revolutionary violence. This is its nature.

            “No sector of the population is in a state of armed struggle, and we will only win the people to the necessity of armed struggle through increasing and intensifying our political work.” Pages 9-10.

             There are stormy days ahead. Laws should be written now to curb these communist conspirators who are working feverishly to promote the most destructive civil war this world has seen. To treat them as immature naughty boys and girls is suicidal. They are professional communist revolutionaries. There is death in their words and in their hands.

            All the laws against communism which are already on the statute books should be enforced against SDS. A society which will not protect itself against those working to destroy it is doomed.

THE CUBAN HORROR

            The intoxication of the New Left revolutionaries with Cuba reveals clearly the irrationality and totalitarian mentality characteristic of this new breed. By every objective measurement, the regime in Cuba is a massive tyranny contemptuous of the rights of individuals.

            The most reliable evidence of the relation of a regime to its people is the percentage of the population that finds conditions so intolerable that they are prepared to forsake their possessions, family, neighbors, and language and have strange customs and where they have to recommence life as destitute, despised refugees. For every person who actually takes these extreme measures, there must be many who contemplate taking them.

            The statistics of the Cuban refugees speak for themselves. A refugee airlift from Cuba was commenced on December 1, 1965. There are two flights a day, 5 days a week. By June 20, 1969, 154,587 Cubans had been airlifted from Varadero to Miami. There is a waiting list of 200,000.

            The United States Government has registered 32,618 Cuban citizens arriving in this country since February, 1961. A sizable number are unregistered. Scores of thousands more are spread throughout Latin America. Those who are not sufficiently fortunate to escape by the airlift, are apt to choose extreme measures. Recently two boys stowed away in the wheel-well of a flight departing from Havana to Spain. One boy froze to death enroute; the other miraculously survived. What horror could drive boys to such extreme measures?

            The New Left would generate tyranny and genocide in the United States. They must be defeated.

SIECUS SEEKS MONEY

            This fund-raising letter was received by the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade from SIECUS, the Sex Information and Education Council of the United States. It is interesting to note their use of the John Birch Society as a bogyman with which to scare up contributions. It is also interesting to specutale how they secured the name and address of the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade. My guess is that they exchanged mailing lists with one of the liberal, left, radical, or communist periodicals to which we subscribe.

            “An avowed objective of the John Birch Society is ‘organized nationwide . . . angry and determined opposition’ to sex education in public schools, as reported in the enclosed article from The New York Times. This, despite the fact that a recent Gallup poll indicates that almost 70% of American adults favor sex education programs. According to the Sacramento Bee, California Families United are urged to ‘go to the school board meetings in your town and other towns–applaud and groan at the right time and if necessary, stomp your feet and scream. . . The more brazen you are, the more attention you will get.’

            “Courageous teachers, school superintendents and parents, who refuse to be intimidated and are continuing to stand by the family life classes they have adopted, are being subjected to these tactics in communities throughout the United States. I am writing to you for your help to combat the invasion of our educational system by this vocal minority. Have we so little faith in our children’s intelligence, integrity and innate morality that we will refuse to trust them with information at the appropriate time in their lives–before they get into trouble through ignorance?

            “SIECUS, a nonprofit voluntary health agency founded by a group of religious, medical, educational and other professional leaders, has been assisting communities and school systems in setting up family life programs. In the face of the ultra-right’s attack on sex education as a communist conspiracy, SIECUS must expand its services through publications and consultant work with community groups and schools. But, in order to do this, we need your financial support.

            “Today, SIECUS has 6,000 contributors who support our work through donations of cash or stock. The John Birch Society is reputed to have a membership of 60,000. We need 600,000 individuals willing to stand by us morally and financially.
