Malignant
cells have two characteristics. 1)Loss of function, and 2) Return to the
primitive or embryonic state.
The
anarchist, hippie philosophy and practice which renounces constructive,
disciplined work for the community and exalts the sensuous over the rational,
presents an ominous parallel.
A
typical malignant lesion consists of a core of true malignancy surrounded
by a larger zone of inflamation. The cells in this zone are not themselves
malignant, but they are reacting to the proximity of the malignant cells.
They generate toxins and weaken the body generally. In some instances
this toxicity may directly cause death. In other cases they form a protective
barrier for the malignant core and provide it with a sanctuary.
Frequently
the first step in the treatment of malignancy must be an attempt to reduce
and eliminate the zone of inflamation. This may be achieved by appropriate
medication while the elimination of malignant cells requires radical surgery
or radiation.
Malignancies
spread in various ways. The two most important methods are: 1) Infiltration,
and 2) Metastasis.
In
infiltration, the growth expands outwards from the central core by penetrating
all barriers the body erects against it. The growth is a monolithic unity.
In
metastasis, a small seed of cells separates from the parent tissue and
travels via the blood stream or the lymph channels to a new tissue where
it implants itself and grows and causes a secondary malignancy. It is
sometimes difficult to relate the secondary to the primary growth.
The
“Old Left” or the parties of the World Communist Movement
may be likened to a malignancy spreading by infiltration while the “New
Left” can be considered the product of metastasis. It is not always
easy to discern the links between the “New Left” and the long-established
communist conspiracy, but most of the “New Left” activists
have roots in the “Old Left”. Herbert Marcuse is typical as
he was a separatist, a fanatical German Communist in his youth. Many,
if not most, of the hard core of the “New Left” have parents
who were closely related to the “Old Left.”
The
treatment of malignancy must be radical and it demands courage and sacrifice.
Fred
Schwarz
Guyana
continues to make news. Now that the danger of its becoming a communist
base on the South American mainland has been temporarily averted, it has
become a locus of conflict between Venezuela and Brazil. It is the subject
of constant discussion in the communist press.
Cheddi
Jagan, ex-Prime Minister of British Guiana, attended the International
Conference of Communist and Workers Parties held recently in Moscow and
openly revealed himself as the most orthodox of communists. During recent
years, it had been his custom to acknowledge that he was a Marxist but
to refuse to answer the direct question, Are you a communist? He has now
shed his transparent mask. He made a public speech at the conference in
which he acknowledged he is a communist, supported the conference resolutions
proposed by the Soviet Union, eulogized the Soviet Union, criticized Red
China, justified the invasion of Czechoslovakia, supported Cuba and Fidel
Castro, promised to make the People’s Progressive Party of Guyana
a true Communist Party, and rededicated himself to the downfall of the
United States of America.
The
record confirms how correct and effective the work of the Christian Anti-Communism
Crusade was in exposing the communist character of Jagan in 1961.
Here
are extracts from his speech at the International Conference of Communist
and Workers Parties:
Confession of Communism
“For
us, this is like homecoming, like joining our ideological family.
“Not
only theory, but practice has taught us that this is where we belong.
“Our
presence here will be the excuse for further attacks. But this does not
frighten us. We have long been faced with imperialism’s biggest
weapon, anti-communism. We were attacked more than two decades ago, when
inspired by the heroic deeds of the Soviet people under the magnificent
leadership of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union we had formed in
1946 the Political Affairs Committee, and in 1950 the Poeple’s Progressive
Party with a program of rational independence and scientific socialism
as our banner.”
Support for Soviet Resolutions
“We
support the document. We agree with its structure and formulations. Its
four parts give a true picture of the world situation; the forces supporting
and opposing imperialism; and where, when, and how action must be undertaken.
“The
documentation provides clarity. It speaks of the growing monopolization
and concentration of capital, the merging of the states and the new capitalist
monopolies, and the new forms of economic organization for the exploitation
and subjugation of whole nations and peoples.
“Today,
more than ever, a clear-cut ideological line of the international communist
and working-class movement is vitally needed. The imperialists have created
a worldwide propaganda apparatus to mount a campaign of half-baked ideas,
half-truths and plain lies embellished as everlasting truths.
“Besides,
increasing contingents, particularly students, intellectuals and professionals,
radicalized and revolutionized by their own proletarianization through
the technological revolution and the deepening crisis of imperialism,
are confused because of lack of ideological clarity and unfortunately
spend a great deal of time, energy, and militancy fighting one another
instead of concentrating their forces unitedly against the class enemy.”
Criticism of Red China
“We
would have liked the Chinese leadership to be present here to convince
us of the correctness of their ideological and political line. Unfortunately,
they prefer to stay away, hurl invectives and precipitate border clashes
with the Soviet Union which, with the other socialist states, is the main
bastion against world imperialism.
“Incidentally,
we are amused by the Chinese charges against the USSR of revisionism when
simultaneously the CPSU leadership is charged with orthodoxy and rigidity
by the imperialists and their agents and dupes. We are reminded that Lenin
himself was charged with revisionism for the New Economic Policy.
“The
Chinese leadership, by their non-Marxist methods of criticism and unprincipled
attacks against the Soviet Union and the other socialist states, have
precipitated disunity in the world revolutionary camp. ‘Disunity
in the face of the enemy,’ as the great leader of the Cuban people
and revolution, Comrade Fidel Castro, once said, ‘is not only dangerous
but also suicidal.’”
Invasion of Czechoslovakia
“Referring
to the August events, our Australian comrades say that the intervention
harmed our cause, the struggle for a socialist world, that internationalism
cannot be separated from a regard for the rights of all nations, great
and small.
“Sine
when do we argue only legalistically and not also dialectically? Do we
make no distinction between imperialist wars and interventions on the
one hand, and people’s wars and international solidarity on the
other?
“The
entry of troops of the Warsaw Pact countries. . . was done to prevent
a socialist state from reverting to capitalism.
“What
do our Australian comrades mean when they say in connection with the August
events (invasion of Czechoslovakia) that internationalism cannot be identified
with the national interests of any socialist country? We cannot conceive
that there is or can be any interest of the Soviet state which would be
in contradiction with the interests of the various contingents of the
World Revolutionary Movement.
“Comrade
Fidel Castro knows perhaps more than many of us here what struggling for
our cause and a socialists world means, yet he has said that the entry
of the Warsaw Pact troops was politically justifiable.”
Support for Cuba
“So
far as we are concerned, the defense of the Cuban Revolution is a matter
of principle. Our party bailed it from the beginning. . . We will continue
to defend this beacon of light in the Western Hemisphere.”
Support for the Soviet Union and World Communism
“The
defense of the socialist states is also for us a matter of principle.
Their economic and military might must not be undermined. These states,
more particularly the Soviet Union, stand guard over the fate of mankind
in all distant frontiers of the world. Those who doubt this must ask the
Cubans, the Vietnamese, and the liberation fighters in Africa and elsewhere.
Did not the Cuban delegation admit, the heroism of the Cuban people apart,
that aid from the Soviet Union was vital in the preservation of the first
socialist state in the Western Hemisphere?
“There
heroism of the Vietnamese people apart, did not rockets, tanks and other
weapons, etc. from the socialist states help in the Tet offensive in 1968,
which humiliated the US aggressors and forced them to the conference table?”
The Communization of the People’s Progressive Party
“In
Guyana, the situation will get worse before it turns finally for the better.
“Border
claims and incursions by the imperialist-backed puppets in Suriname and
Venezuela provide the Burnham regime with the excuse to militarize our
economy and politics, and to recognize and welcome the Brazilian dictatorship
as a friend and protector.
“The
PPP (People’s Progressive Party) is in the process of transforming
itself from a loose mass party to a disciplined Marxist-Leninist type
of party. It is accelerating its work on the ideological front to combat
racial emotionalism, religious obscurantism, economism, and other false
ideas. It is increasing its effectiveness on the mass fronts, particularly
in the labor movement and among the youths and students. At the same time,
it is combating rightist reformist illusions and leftist anarchist impatience.”
The Coming Doom of the U.S.A.
“Vietnam
is also for us a matter of principle. The people of the whole world owe
a debt of gratitude to the heroic Vietnamese people for stalling the imperialist
juggernaut. By dealing crushing blows, Vietnam transformed the US political
scene, and forced even hawks like George McBundy to become doves. Today,
it is sounding imperialism’s deathknell. Tomorrow, more battles
in other areas of Asia, Africa, and Latin America (the most aggravated
front of imperialism) will create its graveyard.”
